Athlon 64 X2 upgrade?

Will an Athlon 64 X2 processor be supported by my HP ZV6130? The 3800 is fast and runs cool. Just wondering if the moboard and PS can handle it...I think it draws about 89 watts.

Hp says no way...

Just found out from HP tech support that there are no plans for a new bios to support the X2 cpus in the ZV6000 series...I ran it in there for a couple of days and it ran cooler than the 3200+ it came with, but windows xp only saw one of the cores...ah well.

Not true opteron. My ZV6130 has a socket 939 moboard and came with an Athlon 64 3200+ (not the mobile version, or Turion) It runs the X2 just perfectly, except for the major issure of only seeing one core. I would think a bios fix could take care of that, but HP says no plans for that right now. Shucks. Would've been a great upgrade, not to mention fairly cheap, with X2 3800's going for around 160 us online. On my desktop I have it OC'd to 2.4 ghz, and it benchmarks the same as the X2 4800+, in spite of only having the 2 512kb caches...best OC'ing bargain since the Celeron 300A days...runs cool and stable at that freq, too.

aww....that sucks. but its ok, my rig is a 754 so no chance of an upgrade anyway :-\

yeah that does suck, I was thinking of doing that too as I have the same lappie. Darn...but at least I know.

There is a dual core hotfix from Microsoft that should fix your problem of only seeing one core. I couldn't find a link to the fix but if you do some searching for it you should be able to find it.

can you be more specific?

Too late for the MS fix for me, I'd given up on it's ability to run an X2 and already popped in an A64 4000+, which is running well. Thanks for the info, though.

What battery life does it get, compared to your previous proc?
I assume that A64 4000+ is a San Diego core, so I would also like to know how battery life is compared to the 3200+. 67W vs 89W is a pretty big difference. I would also like to know how cool it runs.

X2 actually worked?!@@!

I can't believe the system actually recognized the processor (albeit only one core). What did the driver say after you installed it? Did it install a driver for the 3200+ or X2 3800? This is fascinating!!

also, is it hard to replace the CPU in this laptop? I've upgraded the RAM before. Just wondering. i'm really wanting to slap in a A64 4000+ San diego.
It's not that hard. But you essentially have to read the manual and take the whole thing apart: you need to take off all the screws on the bottom of the computer, take out the HDD, take off the monitor... I think it's good to do something like this because it will help you get to know your computer and clean it if necessary...

Link to Service and Maintance Guide that shows how to take apart unit can be found on www.hp.com for those that don't know.

Type in your model number and you should find it.

for those of you who did a cpu swap. what thermal paste are you using?
This looks to be just the thread I'm looking for....I have the zv6123cl notebook. I have seen many posts (here and elsewhere) concerning a swap from the stock 3200+ (as stated previously 939 desktop socket) to the 4000+ with no problems. I have also seen that the dual core looks to NOT be an option. I would like to know if any one has tried the FX53(same as the 4000+ witth no lock on the fsb and hotttt) or the FX55. The FX55 boasts 2600 speed ratings which is appeling to me seeing as I can only OC to 2100(using clock-gen) with the ram speed @ about 190mhz. Any help or advice on the swap or OC'ing would help a great deal.

ppl have put FX cpus in, but heat becomes a concern.
Okay... I know this is really old.... Almost a year, but it's what I'm looking for.

I'm running a 3800+ (939), but now that X2 3800's are like 70 bucks, it'd be a cheap huge upgrade.

So, has anyone got this too work? Thoughts on even being worth it?

Thanks and again Sorry for dragg'n an old thread back

One of you guys said your A64 4000+ is running perfectly... well I tried 2 of them so far, and I don't get any video. I have the latest BIOS I believe F.1C

What's going on here?
