it all depends on what you want to use your computer for.

well...

I'd use it more for writing and homework...

But the highest performance i'll need will be for video (movies and dvd), music (maybe an iPod) and gaming (more on the Rpg and the RTS style)...

It is a good choice, then?

I just bought one of these about a week ago and it is probably the fastest PC I have ever used - both for programming and gaming.

My only one issue is that the screen is nice and wide but a bit short. It will take a bit getting used to.

David,I'd read thru this write up on the various GPU's (video cards) used these days.
The ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M IGP rates towards the BOTTOM of the list.. (slow card compared to what can be had.)

The X200M is actually capable of some light 3D, but remember that it is integrated, and you will be very limited when it comes to games - do not buy it for that purpose.

Mobile Graphics Card Comparison Chart

If you're looking for a gaming laptop, Or doing graphic intensive work the GPU should be your top priority. GPU is the "video card" for those of you who don't know.

Even if you're not into games, keep in mind that Windows itself "likes" a fast video card and the new Vista will be VERY graphics intensive.
For anything that is graphic intensive the GPU is more important than the CPU in most cases.

I bought this notebook on Friday and it is very fast. It plays madden 2007 GREAT and for the price IMO cannot be beat. The only problem is HP tech support is not that great. I had problems with the wireless light going out. I was on the phone with them for about an hour and they could not find the problem. The finally said it was a defective laptop and I should take it back and order one from their websight. I took it back. After I received the one I have now, same thing. The light went out. The problem was this. When I used windows update, it had a update for the broadband wireless. I installed it and that is what caused the light to go off. Not a motherboard problem like thay said. When I reinstalled the original driver that came with the laptop the light came right back on and no trouble since. You would think with as many people who have probl done this very same thing, that HP tech support would know about this issue. I really Love the speed this laptop has. The only other issue I have is this. I use a Netgear pro 108 router yet the speedbooster on this laptop will not connect past 54 Mbps. If anyone has any advice about this I could use some help here about that. HP had no clue. He tried to tell even though it showed 54 Mbps it was connecting at the 125 Mbps speed. hard to do since the router only goes to 108.

Hope this helps
Ted

This is the link to notebookreviews "networking and wireless" section of the forums.

I've been lurking this site for some time but am not a member. If its not in the sticky and the users can't help ya it probably can't be done. \]

Its an excellent resource and the majority of posters are knowledgeable . Notebookforums has a similar section with at least, and probably better advice to be had. This is just another reasource for ya in case you have not seen this site. Hope it helps.
