Got a 9400 with Core SOLO - Can i upgrade to Core Duo or Core 2 Duo?

In february i got my DELL 9400/E1705 with a CORE SOLO T1300 Cpu.
I would like to upgrade to the new Merom "CORE 2 DUO" once its available here in germany.

Can somebody tell me:
- If i have the same mainboard as a CORE DUO notebook, is it the same CPU-Socket?
- If i can upgrade to a CORE DUO (Yonah) or a CORE 2 DUO (Merom) without problems?

Thank you very much!

As far as I know, Duos and Solos fit on the same socket, so they can be exchanged.
Also, if you search the forum you will fild people who have installed Merom on their E1705!

Yeah, i already read some threads regarding this upgrade. But i wasnt sure if i could even upgrade to a CORE DUO, because i did not know if i had the same board as a CORE DUO notebook...
so i guess the only thing i now need as an older BIOS, because i already updated to the A01 bios, and as i read, i need the A00 version...

But as i read it, i will not be able to use the full power of the CPU due to the limitation of 667mhz FSB vs. the CPU's 1066mhz right?

It works with A01. Here are two threads that mention it.

So i could buy that and upgrade to dual core? I thought meroms were socket 479?

Seems like a yes... And seems like Meroms are Socket 479, your Core solo is 479Y isnt it? All core duo are 479.... But i would rather buy a Merom instead because as i heard, the Meroms are about to cost the same as Core Duos...

So what about the FSB clock? the Core Duo have 667 mhz, the Meroms have 1067 or something like that, will that be fixed with a bios update? Or will the CPUs work under the performance they could?

if you have a 945GM or 945PM chipset you should be good to go with the meroms

Still my question is what about the FSB?
My E1705 has a 945GM chipset, dont all CORE SOLO/DUO Mainboard have that one?
Merom will still use the 667mhz FSB, initially. Conroe uses the faster 1066mhz FSB.....

Alright... So everything put together.... no reasons NOT to upgrade... ? :-)

Careful about this statement -- the old Pentium M was also socket 479 -- but it was a diff socket.

However yes the socket in the E1705 with the i945PM chipset will run a core duo1/2
