Lost about 1000 Benchmark Points after reinstalling Windows - Page 2

Run the CPU tests.

If all else fails you could always try reformatting and reinstalling again. If you do, make sure you install everything in the correct order Dell specifies. You have to remember that, since Dell makes their own mobo's, sometimes a Windows re-install can get goofed by not installing things per Dell's instructions....

Why should I run CPU Test it doesn't effect the score!!!

HD is already defraged...think I'm going to do a reinstall...but were should the error be:

1. format C:
2. install windows
3. install drivers
4. install programs

when I got my notebook the first time I also made a clean sweep and deleted everythin installed by dell and made format C: and than did the reinstall the way I described it...

Your CPU "performance" does affect your score.

Running the CPU tests will give you a good idea how your CPU is performing.

Maybe you CPU is throttling down or it's not 100% for the first test.

Firestarter did you install the latest chipset drivers from dells website? That seemed to help for me.

I have heard of this happening on another forum too and it has slightly scared me off doing a reformat & reinstall. The problems I saw on other forums included lower PCMark scores and longer Super Pi times.

This makes absolutely no sense. I am not bashing anyone here, but you guys MUST be doing something wrong.....

Since I don't have a comparable value from before reinstalling it's useless for me, but I ran the CPU Test and got 6970 Points...

@ sleey0

This may be but the big question is what?????

Any new news? Have you reformatted again?

Nope...I'm still playing with drivers and settings...

Whats really surprising my system is booting faster than ever before, but benches are still unacceptable...and to mind I scored 8800 with clocks at 500/600 and with 625/725 8970 today...really strange...is it?

Today I got a really odd failure by running 3DMark05:

IDirect3DDevice9::Present failed: Device lost (D3DERR_DEVICELOST)

I only got this failure once, other tests ran fine without failure...

I searched with google but I found nothing that could really help me...

I attached my dxdiag.txt maybe anybody could find an error..

Did you upgrade any hardware before your last reformat?

Nope, but today I hit 9870 in 3DMark05 just deinstalled directX and reinstalled it than installed XG Drivers 91.31 and surprise, surprise ... I got normal benchmarks but these are not as good as my old ones...I'll keep experimenting

I got around to putting my old harddrive back in (system came with a 100gb 5400 RPM, but I wanted a 100gb 7200 RPM). I ran 3dmark05 with 91.31 XG drivers and got the following scores:

Score: 8402
Test1: 35.9 fps
Test2: 25.9 fps
Test3: 40.9 fps
CPU1: 2.9 fps
CPU2: 4.9 fps

Then I ran it on the new, freshly formated 7200 RPM drive with the same drivers:

Score: 7905
Test1: 31.4 fps (4.5 fps difference)
Test2: 25.6 fps (.3 fps difference)
Test3: 39.3 fps (1.6 fps difference)
CPU1: 2.9 fps (same)
CPU2: 4.7 fps (.2 fps difference)

So, the fps difference is not huge, but it somehow takes 500pts from 3dmark05. I've run the test a few times and I've gotten scores as low as 7600.

I checked dxdiag and I have the same version of directx on both systems. Anyone have any ideas now that I have scores for both?

Ahhh, the joys of synthetic benchmarks.... Ya' gotta' love 'em
