ATI Catalyst 6.7 on my M6809 radeon 9600

OK so I just formatted my machine M6809 and I reinstalled everything I can so far (Dx 9.0, chipset, windows is updated etc.) now I have tried to install the new cat drivers(6.7) using the DHmodtool3 and I dont have a option to set my screen to 1280x800 which should be my native resolution (it only gives me 800x600, 1024x600 and 1024x768) I even tried unchecking box that said dont disply unsupported resolutions and it gave me heaps of other options but not 1280x800 . I think these new cat drivers are better than whatever I had before because CS:S will run with eveything on high (even high range dynamic lighting or whatever) and AA of 2. SO I happy with them in game mode but they make my regular windows experiance poor. I 3d model on this machine and cant stand streched images HELP.. Ok so the questions are -

1) How can I set my screen to 1280x800?
2) Are these Cat 6.7 drivers better or should I use the mobility version?

uninstalll ur graphic. - reboot
do a complete graphic driver cleaner (u can try to use the uninstaller from ati or driverCleaner) - reboot
ignore XP device driver installation
get the update from ati, just let the system do the check and download the MOBILITY version
(i personally) do not use CCC, only graphic driver
it works FINE with ati stock, no DHmod tool.

cheers ...

So then why does anyone bother putting CAtalyst desktop drivers on there laptops? Is it really not anybetter than the mobility Catalyst drivers?

The Radeon Xpress Mobility 200M video card on my Turion notebook uses regular Catalyst drivers. But I have an older notebook that needs special drivers "Mobility" drivers IIRC.

I agree with ghn about using the ATI Driver Cleaner utility (I forget the exact name, but it's on the ATI site).

It seems like the 6.7 ATI video driver is not detecting the supported resolutions on your notebook. Getting rid of all the junk from previous drivers should help.

The ATI driver site homepage has a "Drivers and Software" button you click that walks you through what hardware you are using and eventually takes you to a link to the correct driver, so I would let ATI have the final word there.

many users that have "older" ati gfx (ex. 9500) and want to take advantage of the "so-called better tweaked" ati driver. i used DHMOd myself in the past, and liked it.

all in the eyes of the beholder! if it works for u with no issue, then it is "better" - regardless of DHMod, Omega, DNA or whatever tweaked form from ati catalyst or even ati stock out there

cheers ...

To expand just a little, there didn't used to even an official mobility driver from ATI. You had to rely on your machine manufacturer to provide driver updates, use mod tools such as DHMod, or go with something like the Omega drivers that were already modded for use on mobility chipsets. About a year or so ago, ATI started supplying an official mobility driver for use on some of the chipsets (9600 mobility being the oldest IIRC).

I wonder if regular Catalyst drivers would work in the my old notebook. I think it has a "Rage 3D Mobility" or something similar. It's a Compaq (big mistake) that I bought it in 2001.

regular catalyst modded, possibly. Check DHMod and Omega website. They should both list a compatibility chart. Perhaps in the readme?
