Im thinking about buying a 1.6 CPU and pinmodding it to a 2.13, and also buying the 7800GTX if I even can anymore? I just upgraded to 2 GB of RAM. Im just trying to get the longest life out of this as I can.

Does anyone have a 2.13 processor, 7800GTX, and 2 gigs of RAM? If so was it worth the upgrades? How much did it cost? 3dmark score?

I bought mine just over a year ago with the 2.13GHz CPU and 1G RAM. First thing I did was get another 1gig.

About 3 months ago now (maybe 4) I finally got hold of a 7800GTX for my rig, for exactly the same reason as you - I wanted to extend the life of the lappy for as long as possible before getting the "itch" to upgrade.

I'm more than happy with the performance I've got - I figure I'll easily get AT LEAST another year out of this now.

3Dmark05 score is around 7600 or 7800 - can't remember now. Oh, and I overclocked the 7800GTX - 450/1200.

is there much of a difference between 1GB and 2GB RAM for non gaming application?

if youre running normal everyday apps then you should be fine with 1 gig.

Also, does anyone know where I can get the 7800gtx?

http://www.notebookforums.com/thread164575.html $325 + shipping i forget if there has to be any modding to get it to fit...

yeah but when you add it the cost for new battery and ac adapter you are in the 400 zone at which point it is almost worthwhile to sell current lappy and buy a new one.

problem with that is you loose money.

like i paid 1500$ about 9month ago stock stuff 512mb ram 6800go.

and now i be lucky too get 700 for that config lol

and problee way it is now 7800gtx 2gb ram i be lucky too get 800 too 1000 lol

too me its worth it too hang on too something that does good in games still

and in july i got the 7800gtx and batt and ac and i think its well worth it

I did the pinmod when I first bought my 9300 a year ago. I paid 100 bucks for the pinmod cpu, and sold my stock 1.6 for 160 bucks. Also, you can get the battery pack and charger brick on ebay for less than 200 bucks together if you plan to upgrade the graphics card. I am still thinking about it. Good luck with the pinmod. I had my whole computer back together and forget to strap down the cpu. I thought it was fried at first.

Here is my 06 compare:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=430475

Specs:
1.7 @ 2.26 Pin and volt modded
7800GTX @ 440/1150 (all day) or 450/1300 (benching)
2GB OCZ ram

let me tell ya - this is one zippy little machine. The thing may be "older", but by no means are they out of date yet. I would say the $400 investment would be worth it, given the cost and hassel of a new laptop...
