I wanted to know whether I should take the 3800 X2 or the normal Athlon 64 3800..

which has better performance for gaming?? Also..i heard there have been A LOT OF problems with dual-core processors in gaming....So are they false or are they not reccommended for gaming..THANKS A LOT GUYS

3800X2. how much are you spending? (also go am2 unless you already have a mobo)

Core2 Duo FTW..

I dont know where you heard about the problems with dual core and gaming... you may have heard most games don't utilize the dual core aspect... but thats not a problem...

pffft.. right now buying an X2 is a horrible idea.. only a huge fanboi would do that. Intel pretty much beats AMD at every price point by a fair margin.

not after the recent AMD price drops

Yes but the E6300 is only 210 $, and you can easily overclock it to 3.0-3.4 ghz which easily kicks the FX-62's ass.

not true.. the lower end E6400 beats AMD procs around the same price.. this only gets worse as price goes up with the E6600 pwning pretty much everything except the FX-62 and costing $339.00

i am pretty much a huge amd fanboi, but i wouldnt be building a computer now. id wait for vista and get amd's best at that time, and by then, i anticipate the case being the same as it was with pentium d's versus x2's. because, lets keep in mind, this is next-gen intel dual core tech being compared to first gen amd x2.

?? how? AM2? K8L?

I remember all the fanboys rejoicing when the whole reverse HT hype came out, we all know where that one ended..

No, Intel will have AMD beat for a whole year at least, K8L is nothing more than a die shrink, revised HTT, and DDR3 support. Sure quad core sounds nice, but Intel is already planning to launch quads even earlier than AMD, and I doubt the revised HTT will change much if anything at all. DDR3 isn't even worth mentioning.

Why do you think AMD is seeking to invest 5.4billion into ATI? Their future wasn't looking good as it was. After that move, I really don't see them with good eyes, they've cut off Nvidia, and who knows what might happen because of that..

im hoping that intel pushing up their launch for quadcore rushes out flawed chips and i dont think thats too far fetched. i am very disheartened by the ati amd merger cause i love nvidia. i was also disappointed by negligible performance increases from am2. bah.

it is... Intel isn't rushing anything, their 65nm process shrink went smoothly, and they've been testing and developing the platform for awhile now. Pressure's off their back now that they have the high, and middle end. I can see AMD being much more rushed than Intel is right now.

Then why all the blind support? I just buy what's better at the time. I don't care if its AMD, Intel, Nvidia, or ATI.
