Dual Core Upgrade Path for Inspiron 6000

Anyone know what I can do to my Inspiron 6000 in terms of upgrades? I'd love dual core, even if it meant serious FSB declocking and such, but I'm hardly a chipset and socket interchange guru.

I don't really care at all about similar Pentium Ms of faster clock, that doesn't interest me.

While both being 478 pin, I see P-M is FCPGA4 and Core Duo is FCPGA6. So I guess there's probably no hope. But I thought I'd ask! Visual Studio .NET really slaps this box around

I also found this on Wikipedia..

Quote:
Yonah is supported by the 945GM, 945PM and 945GT system chipsets. Core Duo and Core Solo use an FCPGA6 (478-pin) pinout, but due to pin arrangement and new chipset functions are not compatible with any previous Pentium M motherboard.

Now I know why I got a pretty nice wxga laptop last black friday for a very good deal, they had to move inventory for the core branded stuff coming out that christmas

deals = bad deal!

Unfortunately it simply can't be done. The older CPUs (Pentium-M and most Celeron-Ms) used the i915 chipset; Yonah requires the i945 (and a different socket, as you've found).
