Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

Is the Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound going to make a big difference in cooling the CPU? (in a S96J)
Yes, about 2~3*C.
Right! If you would like to apply this, please take off all the used paste on the cpu and heat sink first.
Cheers

It won't make a big difference. but it's good to get the experience doing it. Just never, ever, ever get that crap on your bare skin

Why? It washes off.. eventually..
I heard it'll leach into your skin. makes sense. tiny microballs of metal that your skin will just soak right up. not too good to have metals in your body you don't need (to this end, never ever ever handle lead with your bare skin)

whether that's crap or not, I really dont know. but I do know it's always good to play it safe with chemicals!

we can't be losing any NBF members, now!

Uh oh.. I'm a goner then - lead, AS3, AS5, used engine oil, stainless braid that's like a hypodermic - believe me, it's all been in my skin at one point in time.. Oh yeah, I forgot petrol (man that stings if you get it in your eye!).

And another top tip - brake fluid tastes vile, I don't recommend starting a syphon by sucking.

Mercury, though.. that I wouldn't play with - Mercury vapour is highly carcinogenic.

Ok.. I have no concept of personal safety

same as you. been working on cars for 15 years and I practically grew up bathing in gasoline, washing old parts. spraying down anything and everything with brake cleaner (including my hands), sanding bondo without respirator but the tiny metal in your bloodstream thing is what bothers me
post #9 of 12
Yeah - brake cleaner is *great* at getting oil off your skin, isn't it!

Ok, so it takes all of the natural oils off too, but hey... clean hands for work the next day

and half dried rustoleum, and turning your hands chalky white.. lol

it's also great for blasting arctic silver off the cpu package

Would the reseller you bought your S96J/Z96J from use this upon request of a customer (for a cost?)
Yes, we did this for customers without cost before, just apply some paste to the cpu. It will not take the whole stick of compound.
Cheers
