S/PDIF Digital Cable?

Can anyone point me to a site on the net that sells these cables? I have a S/PDIF audio output on my new notebook I just bought but I can't seem to find the cables anywhere.

Thanks.

Monster cable are way overpriced, especially for a PC. Go here for good cable at great price:

Yes but this would not be a regular S/PDIF cable. One end of the cable would need to have a 3.5MM fixture, while the other end would need to have either optical or C0-Axial (those are digital connections.) I have seen the S/PDIF cable with one end of it being a 3.5MM connection but the other end is a left/right RCA composite connection (which is NOT digital, it's analog.)

So S/PDIF is digital, in order to keep it all digital whatever your plugging it into (from the notebook to an external sound system) has to be going into either one of two ports (optical or Co-Axial.) If not, your wasting your time connecting it via the S/PDIF port on the notebook.

That's why I'm confused (with regards on finding the cable, I can't find them anywhere.)

Do you see a light inside the 3.5MM jack. If so, you have a combination optical and analog Jack. What you need is a optical cable with a 3.5MM jack on one end (or an adapter for a 3.5MM jack) and then the regular Toshlink connector on the other end like this one here:

Not sure yet, my notebook is still being built. If there is no light in the 3.5MM S/PDIF connection when I get it, then what does that mean?

What laptop are you building, Maybe I can take a look and see.

Looks to be a combination optical and analog jack.

There are two jacks for audio out, one is analog, one is digital (s/pdif) Look at the tour for the notebook if I'm confusing you.

If it's using one of the audio out jacks, it got to be optical as there is no such thing as a combination Analog and coaxial digital jack.

Actually, if you've ever had a Creative Live/Audigy series card, you'd have seen a 3.5mm plug to coax digital.

Plus, optical from a 3.5mm would require an interesting setup. Where would the emitter go?

As for which cable to get, I'd just ask HP, I'm sure they have a model number for that cable (or it might even come in-box).

Yeah good point R, I use to have the Audigy card for the notebook and you could indeed buy the correct cable from creative (one end was a 3.5MM and the other was optical.) But now for some reason the cable has disappeared from their website. But yes Wiz, you can clearly see that the audio connections on the DV6000Z are ALL 3.5MM connection, there are no optical or co-axial connections on it.

The 3.5mm Coaxial digital out on a Audigy is not a combination jack with analog output. The combination analog audio and optical digital output is the most commmon type found on laptops and mini-disc players. The light emmiter is at the the end of the socket where as the audio contacts are on the ring. See here:

Combination jack
