Hey guys. Whenever I bring my computer out of hibernation mode the computer doesn't recognize my dvd rom drive. I open my computer and it doesn't show any drive there and i can't open the drive. Has anyone else had this problem? or does anyone know how i can fix it? thanks

Area 51m 16.1, 3.2 ghz 1 gig ram. windows xp home.

hibernation is a problem with all computers and laptops.... it is a very flawed design.... in my experience it healthy to throw your laptop off a 3rd story window than to let it go into hibernation.

I agree Hibernation has never realy worked right in any design be it desktop or laptop.

It's always worked with my desktop. I'm not sure how it will with my laptop though. I'm getting it today though so we'll see.

id suggest against turning it on.... even if it "works" i dont see it as a good idea... turning peripherals off while the computer is running is just a flawed idea...

Hibernation doesn't leave the computer running.

It writes the contents of memory to the hard drive and then shuts off the machine entirely. Next time you turn it on, instead of having to go through the entire startup machine, it simply loads memory from the disk. Any applications you had running will still be running.

You're thinking of sleep mode.

The Hibernation feature was programmed by a MS employee fresh out of hibernation

please PLEASE dont use it...avoid using standby if you can...these features are not designed well and cause more problems than normally acceptable - even good hardware stumbles with crappy half-assed software!!
