Hi ... I am new to this type of operating system ( Product Recovery ) I been told if my hard drive die , so does my operating system , Is this true ? Also is it possible to create a windows disk from an product recovery system ? Again I been told if I burn an copy of I386 folder onto disk that I can use this to reinstall windows , Is this also true ? Can someone suggest correctly what I should do in this matter ?

BTW My hard drive isn't died , I just want to be on the safe side before hand

Laptop > Toshiba M70 ( PSM73C-CL100E ) model , xp home sp2

Thanks

No, u cant magically make win xp disc of what u have installed on ur computer. U should be able to make a recovery, which is just an image of ur computer, but not a standalone OS

typically before a hdd dies it gives you tale-tale signs, at which point you should probably back everything up that you can. at that point trash the drive, grab a new one, and start fresh.

try out norton ghost. you can't make an os disk, but you can backup a recovery image to CD.

Hi .. Thanks for the quick responds , Ok so I can't do what I was hopeing , so can I use a image software like Ghost and make a image of the drive , install a new hard drive and load the image onto the new drive ? One other thing can I use a extrenal usb drive , make a clone or image onto this and then install on a new hard drive ? More or less I am trying to figure out what are my options if my hard drive was to die on me , I want to be able to reinstall windows again , So can I ? Thanks

Yes, you can use Ghost (or Acronis True Image) to do all of the above. And the sooner you get on it--the better!
