e1505 running a little too hot

I recently got my e1505 and it seems to get really hot on my lap on the HD side even when it hasn't been on too long. Its not just when circulation is bad on my lap but it is quite hot to the touch and is very uncomfortable to even rest on my shines. It does this without me putting any strain on the system, webbrowsing etc.. The fans only seem to run sometimes I don't know if this is a problem but is there a way to keep them on if I am say plugged into the wall.

Also on a much less important note I was wondering if anyone has experience with the 9cell battery. Is it that much better in battery life and does it add too much excessive wieght/bulk.

Also my specs

T2400
1GB 557mhz
x1300 graphics card
WGA with truelife
60GB 7200 rpm harddrive

Any thing else that needs to be known?

make sure your power settings are set to PORTABLE/LAPTOP... or else the speedstep doesnt kick in..

the 9 cell gives me about 5-6 hrs doing normal tasks.. so i think its worth it.. it weighs a bit more but it doesnt stick out

i have a T2300 and X1400

The hard drive will get hot and there's no way around it without cutting the computer and adding some sort of fan or heatsink to the bottom of the hard drive.

My HD runs about 40 to 50 C which is within spec for the hard drive. 7200 RPM drives run a bit hotter than 5400 RPM ones.

Dell decided an enclosed metal cage with no airvents was sufficient for cooling the hard drive. I guess we'll have to trust their judgement.

This may help a little. In the BIOS there is a setting for Hard drive performance which lets you choose between performance or quietness. the quiet setting may help reduce temps marginally, but i havent messed with it. I have mine set to performance. If it fails, Oh well, I guess I'll have to upgrade my drive to a higher capacity one.

Hope this helps.

Get Notebook Hardware Control and find out what temperature it's actually running at.

which cooler would you recommend for the e1505, or is that a program.
if i were to get a cooler, id want it portable as the laptop, and low profile as well, any suggestions/links please.

Well from personal experiences with DELL comps i know that the heating issue is a problem....Contact them to put the bug in there ear so to say. My laptop got so hot that it burnt my legs up and melted the stickers on the bottom! Dell replaced my laptop because eventually the motherboard crashed because of the excess heat! AND they replace it OUT OF WARRANTY! (after a few threats I made)

I have a e1505 now and i am using a laptop cooler to be on the safe side! Its called a TARGUS is is lightweight and pretty quiet! Another memeber on here suggested it and i went out to get it right away! It keeps the laptop pretty cool and fits comfortably on my lap.
