HP LIVE Chat Regarding DV6000 & HDMI Port!

I had my roommate chat up live chat tonight regarding the title of this thread, while I watched TV, she gave them a good 'workout' lol!

I swear, I don't know HOW these people get hired, they are totally clueless! My 10 year old brother could give better support then these guys. Get ready for some good laughs folks:P BTW, it's VERY clear that these tech people use scripts to respond to people. My roomie had to reconnect to another tech because the first one disconnected her after he refused to answer her question and she kept typing "???????????????????????????". The second tech was responding with the EXACT same comments as the first one was. India must be a good country these days to get hired for technical support positions, especially when you have no idea what you are doing From what my roomie told me, this second tech was much smarter then the first one, but not my much.

My roomie used the name in chat "Ms Nikki", the other name is the tech agent

Samir: Hello Nikki.
Samir: Welcome to HP Total Care for Pavilion Notebooks. My name is Samir. How may I assist you today?
Ms Nikki: Could you please tell me which DV6000 model notebook pc comes with the HDMI port?
Samir: Let me assist you with this.
Samir: May I have a few moments of your time while I search the information for you?
Ms Nikki: sure (I was speaking to a guy named "Andrew" a few moments ago, after taking 20 minutes of my time, he refused to answer my question and just disconnected the chat session. So I'm not a happy camper right now, having to go through all of this all over again.
Samir: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
Ms Nikki: Yes if he is in your office tell him he is rude! That is not how you treat a customer.
Samir: Now a days we are experiencing technical difficulties at our end. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. We really appreciate your co-operation.
Ms Nikki: But then again, he seemed to be completely clueless as to what he was talking about so it doesn't surprise me of his behavior.
Ms Nikki: Funny how it happened when I kept asking him if he was going to answer me and would not. But whatever you say...
Samir: HDMI provides an interface between any compatible digital audio/video source, such as a set-top box, a DVD player, or an A/V receiver and a compatible digital audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV).
Ms Nikki: Thats not what I asked you. I asked you WHICH DV6000 notebook model comes with the HDMI port?
Samir: Let me check that for you.
Ms Nikki: This is the exact same thing the previous tech did, I would ask him one thing, he would respond with something completely different from what I asked.
Ms Nikki: This is the exact same thing the previous tech did, I would ask him one thing, he would respond with something completely different from what I asked.
Ms Nikki: Thanks, I would appreciate that!
Samir: Its' my pleasure.
Ms Nikki: Have you been able to find any information yet?
Samir: I am afraid that no HP Notebook comes with HDMI port.
Ms Nikki: OK, please answer me this.
Samir: Please go ahead with your enquiry. Looking forward to assist you.
Ms Nikki: Why does the online users manual guide for the dv6000 notebook computer CLEARLY show that the system DOES have an HDMI port (left side of the notebook, to the left of the two USB 2.0 ports
Ms Nikki: And also, on the ordering page when you customize the notebook if you click on the "3d view" for a tour of the system, it also shows that the system has a HDMI port but the product tour bypasses mentioning it as if it's not even there.
Ms Nikki: Could you please explain this to me?
Samir: Sure,
Ms Nikki: thank you
Samir: HP is correctly working on this to put a HDMI Interface on the Notebooks. HP will release the Notebooks with HDMI Ports in near future.
Ms Nikki: why are they not putting them in now?
Ms Nikki: it's unfair to people who have already ordered and received their system, they wont be able to have it or choose it as a part of their order.
Samir: It's still under research process.
Ms Nikki: so do you know how long it will be?
Samir: We do not have the information about that..
Ms Nikki: ok may i ask you another question?
Samir: No exact information
Samir: Sure
Ms Nikki: do you know if the dv6000 is going to be released with an intel processor?
Samir: dv6000 with Intel Processor is not yet released and will be released soon.
Ms Nikki: yes I know it's not released yet, I'm asking do you know when it will be? Do you have any idea how long from now it will be?
Samir: We do not have the exact information about the release date. May be within 1 month.
Ms Nikki: ok regarding the HDMI port, is that something that is only going to be specifically related to the intel version of the dv6000?
Ms Nikki: or will it be offered with the AMD model as well at a later time?
Samir: I am not sure about that.. but the HDMI interface should come with both Intel and AMD processor Notebooks.
Ms Nikki: ok but you have no idea when?
Samir: To have HDMI interface on Notebook is not related to it's processor.
Ms Nikki: ? I didn't say it did.
Ms Nikki: But a lot of the time, you guys offer higher technology with intel based systems verses the AMD based systems.
Samir: Yes. you are correct...
Ms Nikki: but this time around it's going to be on both the intel and the AMD models?
Samir: HP will offer any technology with both Intel and AMD Models.
Ms Nikki: ok but once again, you have no timeline as to when the dv6000 is going to be updated with the HDMI port?
Samir: I would like to inform you that our domain of support is limited to provide technical software troubleshooting via chat. HP Sales department technicians handle the nature of this issue.
Samir: The next step is to contact the HP sales department, which is dedicated to help you research, compare, and purchase selected HP and Compaq computers, HP printers and printing supplies, and other quality products for your need.
Samir: You can call the sales representative at 1-888-999-4747 (weekdays 7 a.m.-2 p.m., weekends 10 a.m.-7 p.m. EST).
Ms Nikki: The sales dept has NO idea about this stuff, I've already tried speaking with them about it, they referred me to tech support.
Samir: Oh...
Samir: I see
Ms Nikki: Trust me, I'm not an idiot!
Samir: I am sorry.
Ms Nikki: No problem
Ms Nikki: so can you answer the question if you don't mind?
Ms Nikki: Because they are clueless.
Ms Nikki: timeline regarding HDMI in the dv6000 to refresh your memory.
Samir: Let me check with my supervisor.
Ms Nikki: thank you
Samir: You are welcome.
Samir: Please spare me few moments.
Ms Nikki: sure
Samir: Thank you
Samir: I am back. Thanks for staying with me.
Ms Nikki: sure not a problem
Ms Nikki: what did you find out?
Samir: Nikki, I have contacted the supervisor and I am afraid that as we belongs to technical support team we do not have the exact information about the products that are not yet released.
Ms Nikki: OK then I suppose you have no idea when the DV9000 notebook will be released either, huh?
Ms Nikki: are you there?
Samir: Yes.
Ms Nikki: so you don't know?
Samir: One moment please
Ms Nikki: ok
Samir: dv9000 may be released in 1 month.. I recommend you to subsribe to HP News letter
Samir: The Customer Times newsletter brings you the most up-to-date information for Business Critical Systems products. The Customer Times includes program news and product directions on Alpha, hp e3000, hp 9000, OpenVMS and Tru64 UNIX, plus links to HPTC, NonStop and Linux.

Samir: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Ms Nikki: one sec please
Samir: Sure

And a quick question about the built in wireless card that comes with the DV6000:

Ms Nikki: could you please tell me if the a/b/g wireless card that you can get with the dv6000 is a "speedbooster" card?
Samir: yes... you can get Built-in Braodcom Wireless Adapter with SpeedBooster technology.
Ms Nikki: we ordered it with the selection "a/b/g 802.11 with bluetooth
Ms Nikki: but can you tell me if the card that comes with the dv6000 supports speedbooster? I didn't say when I ordered it if it did or not
Ms Nikki: I selected: "802.11a/b/g WLAN & Bluetooth"
Ms Nikki: it was an extra 25 dollars
Ms Nikki: this is integrated, NOT external/card!
Ms Nikki: would you like the product number of the system to check if it supports speedbooster?
Samir: Yes.
Ms Nikki: ok one sec please
Samir: Sure
Ms Nikki: EW468AV
Samir: I am sorry there are only three options available for this model...
Samir: They are:
Samir: 802.11b/g WLAN (by default comes with the Notebook )
Ms Nikki: correct
Samir: 802.11a/b/g WLAN
Ms Nikki: correct
Samir: 802.11a/b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
Ms Nikki: correct
Ms Nikki: and none of them support speedbooster?
Samir: Both of them are upgrade options.
Ms Nikki: correct
Samir: Yes.
Ms Nikki: no there is no speedbooster feature on any of them then?
Samir: for this Notebook model there is no such option available.
Ms Nikki: ok thanks!
Samir: You are welcome.

She did mention that She just referred to it as the users manual but it's pretty much the same thing. According to the tech, it's not in the system yet because HP is still trying to work out 'kinks' with the technology. I don't think it's right that they released the system in the first place. All these people who have already bought one/configured one and they had no idea that the port was suppose to be in it. So I think thats going to piss some people off when it finally is released to the system. I think HP should give customers some kind of credit for this. This is why the DV9000Z has been pushed back, because of the HDMI port issue.

I am not 100% sure of the technical requirements for DVI or HDMI but doesn’t the vide card need to have the HDCP protocol built in to enable high definition output?

I am pretty sure that the 7200 series GPU doesn’t have the HDCP protocol so while having an HDMI out would be nice, you aren’t going to be able to display high definition content to an external monitor.

The dv9000 has the 7600 card which supports the HDCP protocol so the HDMI port would allow you to display high definition content to an external monitor.

Not sure but if thats the case, why is there a picture of a HDMI interface connector on the DV6000Z in the users manual and the 3d product tour?

I think you may see that option on the dv9000t as the 7600 is the one that has the HDMI module. I'm thinking that the dv9000t will have the option to pick a better video card (gpu).

HDMI info for those that don't know..

HDMI being needed if you want to directly connect to say a BIG SCREEN TV, PLASMA, PROJECTOR..

Why should I care? well if you're planning, or wanting to hook that laptop up to a big screen, most ALL current BIG SCREEN TV's, PLASMA's, PROJECTOR's have to have a HDCP signal embedded into the DVI output so the two units can sync up.

NO HDCP, NO PICTURE /AUDIO..

DVI+HDCP=HDMI

http://www.digitalconnection.com/FAQ/HDTV_12.asp

What is HDCP?
HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, a copy protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of intercepting digital data midstream between the source to the display. The format designed by Intel and licensed by Digital Content Protection, LLC using an authentication and key exchange procedure before video and audio is presented. Products compatible with the HDCP scheme such as DVD players, satellite and cable HDTV set-top-boxes, as well as few entertainment PCs requires a secure connection to a compliant display, the process often described as the handshake. Due to the increase in manufacturers employing HDCP in their equipment, it is highly recommended that any HDTV you purchase is compatible. Although most video devices support high-definition video over component output, analog connections are scheduled to phase out in the future or possibly forced to limited resolutions output.
Why is it important to me?
Although manufacturers are still making most products with at least component HD output, new generation of products like HD-DVD and Blu-Ray devices will limit the analog output resolution (Analog defined as Component or RGBHV). The highest resolutions these devices can output (720p/1080i/1080p) will be available on via the digital (DVI or HDMI) connections that employ HDCP encryption. Any new HDTV purchase should have a digital HDCP compatible input.
It is important to note that HDCP is currently not a standard used in PC monitors, and almost none of these displays have Component inputs. Although PC monitors are HDTV capable, HDCP encryption limits this type of use. If you use an HTPC and want to ensure dual use of your new flat panel display, look for HDCP compatibility.

How does it work?
A simple answer is that an HDCP session will result in the exchange of keys between the source and display device. The source device will query the display to make sure that the equipment is HDCP compliant before video is shown. Non-HDCP devices such as PC's and older model DVI products will work with any DVI compliant display, but the HDCP compliant boxes will show an image only on HDCP compliant display.
Other products affected by HDCP are scalers, switchers, and splitters (distribution amps). While these devices do no authentication for key exchange, they must be able to transmit the presence of HDCP if the video is handled (processed) in any way. Due to the two different formats of digital connections, occasional inability for proper communications may result in loss of interoperability. The newer format, HDMI was designed to be backwards compatible with DVI and in most instances, the two signal types are easily adaptable, but older devices may not always work well with in-line devices like scalers or switchers. These problems can sometimes be fixed in "firmware' although that is not always the case. Incompatibility is often displays on-screen as a snowy image or an error message.

Nope, the users manual isn't labeled Z or T it's just labeled as "DV6000", and the tour for the Z model clearly shows a HDMI port (you had even mentioned this the other day.)

Edit to above.. dv9000t with the 7600 gpu having the HDMI port.

The 7200 gpu of the dv6000 not having the HDCP module (DVI+HDCP= HDMI)
