First Sentia m3450 review! (I think) - Page 2

Honestly tho, out of all the Alien head pics taken from the backs of the laptops and towers, that's the clearest one. And it's of nice size.

again, congrats!

One quick ? tho...

Did your laptop come with a power cord? To charge it, and plug it in while your're using it? They gave me the option to order one, but I think it was just to upgrade from the standard AC adapter. Thanks

Yes, it shipped with a power adapter. You can see it in the 9th photo in the review, on the upper right side. On the upper left is the cord that goes from the "brick" to the wall.

Ok, thanks man...sweet deal. I assumed that they came with one, but then I wondered why they're offer one at the configuration page. But yeah, that's cool. Thanks for clearing that up fer'me

Secondary monitor in an Alienware Sentia?

Hey Jth....what about running a second monitor in extended desktop mode using the Sentia? Will it support a dell 20 inch widescreen monitor at 1600 x 1050 resolution?
I'm thinking of getting the Sentia because of its size (perfect for college) but would want a secondary monitor to connect to at my dorm room.....help!!

How come this first 3450 review hasn't gotten a STICKY yet?

John, hope things are still going good with your 3450, any quirks you have found with more time and use yet?

Interested Software Developer

John,

Thanks John, excellent feedback. I'm thinking of buying one of these. I noticed that you are a developer and was wondering if you installed Windows XP Professional or are still working in Windows XP Home? I would be interested in learning about any gotcha's if you did switch OS's or any drawbacks if you are developing in XP Home.

Regards, Mark

Awesome review. Awesome, awesome, awesome...

Sticky

Thanks, this may make the difference between buying or waiting for some people...

dimensions please

just curious about the dimensions of the laptop, since the UK and US sites have contradicting information. Says .7" on US and 1.9cm(=.7") on UK but on the UK one it says without screen... apparently with the screen, the thinkness is 3.3cm (~1.2").

thanks in advance.

HI. System looks pretty good. I ordered one yesterday so am really excited and cant wait to get it but i can't see your pictures, the first 2 show up on avant and ie but not the rest. it is true eye candy, do you think that you can put the pics back up again?

The pics will be back up im sure the host 123pichosting.com is down completely probably updating or temporary overload and a few hours later or tomorrow the pics will most likely pop right back up, all 123pichosting.com pics are down tho its not just Johns AW review pics.

No conspiracy, the aliens haven't got him (yet) hehe

Sky,

How did you get

an 80 gig 7200 rpm hard drive (only 7200 i see is 100 gig)

The Respawn kit (its not avail for 3450 they told me)

Bluetooth? (not available anymore on 3450 i was told)

and how did you get free tshirt mousepad etc?
Hey matey,
Just went on to the site and comfigured my order and the 80GB 7200 hdd was on the select list, selected it and the rest and completed the order. Got an email from AW stating the above which then had the free stuff added. I have never dealt with AW before and just following their order system really. It was an option that i chose. I can only think that the free stuff is a promo at the mo.

Just hope when they contact me to confirm the order that they dont try changing anything... we shall see and then i will update you.

You got me worried now, so i have just looked at their site and gone through obviously without buying again, the configuration and all my options as above are still there and selectable. must have been given duff info matey, or at least i hope you have for my sake...lol
post #37 of 65
what was the site you ordered from I was configuring at www.alienware.com
are you in the UK? If so what is the uk alienware site url? Wonder if I can order thru the UK site for USA delivery?

Funny part is AW USA told me I COULDN"T get the 3450 with a 80 gig 7200rpm drive even as a custom order, dunno why but they said 100 gig 7200 was the ONLY 7200 option...and bluetooth and respawn are both not even options on the usa site as of today as I look...
Next he'll be ordering an upgraded gfx card lol
post #39 of 65
Its http://www.alienware.co.uk/main.aspx all the options are on there. yep im in the UK. But i dont think that it will deliver from UK to USA as i looked at the USA site as they worked out cheaper for much the same spec but they didnt ship to UK from the US. Looks like they have different specs in different countries which i dont think is fair, but hey ho , perhaps one day we will all be able to buy the same stuff.

thanks for the comments
