D620: unreliable STANDBY and HIBERNATE

My new D620, XP prof and now loaded up apps is waking up on it's own from standby. Rarely will go into hibernate, inspite of enabling it many times.

Any experience in trouble shooting down to the culprit issue that blocks hibernate?

I don't have any devices set to: wake on ... that should wake up my stand-by lappy.

Horrors: got to work and pulled my lappy out and it was hot as hell and spun up and running with the lid closed. This is nutz and frustrating!!!

tnx curt

Do you have a wireless mouse? Maybe if the mouse is in your bag and gets tossed around Windows will think mouse movement occured and bring you out of standby. Also, be sure your BIOS settings are allowing it to enter standby. Finally, go into Device Manager and for any device that has a "Power Management" tab, be sure "Let this device bring the computer out of standby" is unchecked.

How much memory do you have. If you have 1 gig memory(or more) you want to make sure you have this MS hotfix installed ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330909/en-us ). The system can hang when attempting to enter hibernate when there is more than 1+ gig of memory which will leave the system in a powered on state (which mean it will get hot if in a bag).

More than likely this is the cause of you problem..

Also, make sure your disk has as at least as much free space as you have physical memory. Ex: If you have 2GB RAM, you need 2GB free space on your HD in order for Hibernate to work.

Thanks all. I do have 2Gb of Ram. The windows patch said my XPpro, SP2 is newer than the patch.

No devices found in device manager that could wake Standby mode. ;-(

My new D820 and my old D810 do the same thing constantly. I just shut them off every time... sleep is useless.

Here is another Microsoft KB article that may help.

My D800 did that several times, and since then I never left it, or my D620 suspended or hibernated when packed into a bag.

I would Often leave it suspended when docked (D-port port replicator, lid closed, external monitor) and never had it turn on by itself.
