S96j Won't let Windows XP install...

I'm having a problem with my Asus s96j...

I have a OEM Windows XP home that will refuses to boot up (This is a legit one). There is a dos like screen with that blinking underscore ---> _

nothing happens.

I tried a backed up cd of Windows XP Corp. that got a little farther to the installation but then crashed saying it had to shut down to not mess up the computer. This cd does work, I've used it on my pc.

Then I took my Windows 2000 Cd and it made it the farthest. It is formating right now. I really don't want to use Windows 2000 though.

The specs are as follows.

Celeron Yonah Processor that is compatible, at least according to Intels site.

1 Gig of G.Skill Ram.

Seagate Momentus 5400.2 80 Gigabyte

NEC Black 8X Which fits perfectly in it.

Windows 2000 made it all the way through.

I made a back up copy of my Legit Windows XP home disc and it works so far...

What a strange problem.

Well I got XP installed, but the dvd drive is being weird. Its detected, but when I put a cd/dvd in, it does nothing. I double click the drive and it opens with no files on it... I'm trying to get SP2 installed. Good thing I had a flash drive so I could at least get the network drivers up.

There in lies your problem. Your OS has to have SP2, its for the pci-e and all that junk, so thats your problem.

Ya I got Sp2 installed but it still does it. What is strange is it only plays my Windows XP home disc only, the one I made a back up copy of. anything else just stalls the system until I take it out.... This is the weirdest problem.
