Thanks infamous_pb for the urls, though it looks mostly like they quote the same source. Good information there, especially about the increases in the caches. That seems to be one of the easiest means to increase perfomance, I wonder what the down side is that Intel doesn't just increase the cache sizes and more so that, after the significant performance marks of their 64-bit chips, AMD would introduce new chips with the cache cut in half? I assume some of the issue is cost, but if you are making chips which is a very automated process, what's the cost difference adding in 10% to 20% more transistors? The other issue I would assume to be power and, consequently, heat dissappation, but that wouldn't see to apply to the AMDs unless they are looking to boost the clock speeds on those big time. Anybody have any answers to these questions. Inquiring minds want to know.
