How Do I Use My m9700's S-Video Input?

Alright, so I have all the adaptors and such to hook my Xbox up to my m9700. I've got the adaptor from composite video to s-video, and an adaptor for RCA to stereo miniplug for the audio-in. I know it's a low-res signal but I want to try for shites and giggles, if not to provide myself with my own screen at Halo parties.

So, once everything's plugged in, how do I get the picture on the screen? Is there some app built into XP for this or do I need to download something? My m9700 does not have a TV tuner, btw.

Thanks,
Mike

I would actually like to know this too!

I tried before but it just wasnt working.

I'm guessing an A-51 7700 would be the same as this. If so - someone go ahead 360 on AW = pr0

Yeah, seriously! If only it had a DVI input.

Look around in the advanced properties for the video card. There should be a section where you can choose inputs, and outputs as in external monitors and such.

Sorry I can't help, don't have mine yet...

Try any one of the free windows progams under capture software on this page: http://www.tv-cards.com/apps.php

I found a few that seemed to work.

Thanks for the replies, I'll look into all of that and post back on how it all went.

Portilicious indeed...

So far nothing has worked. I can't find anything in the nVidia settings dialogues about video- or audio-in of any kind. The capture/viewer software(s) only recognize the webcam. I've got my Xbox plugged in with audio and video, so I know there's an active signal. Every time I open one of the capture programs I get a picture of myself from the webcam. Charming... lol.

Anybody have any other ideas? Has anybody made this work on the 7700?

With the capture programs I had to go in and change the source from the camera to the capture card/tuner. Did you change anything like that in the programs you tested?

Im also trying to use the inputs but with no luck so far. Have tried various capture programs but they only recognise the webcam as the capture device. Im using a UK version of the machine so I wasnt able to order mce or the tuner but on the alienware uk page product description for the m9700 it says it does have svideo input. It doesnt mention the coaxial although as far as im aware the port is present but the required tv tuner doesnt come with the UK model even as an option.

What would I need for the m7700 to hook up like a playstation to it and use my laptop as a monitor?

The only method I'd found for changing these things was a simple drop-down menu, and the only available source was the webcam. Maybe I'm using the wrong program. Which do you use/did you use? I tried AMCap.

I have had the same problems - and tried all of the same things you guys have. I am begining to believe that the TV tuner is a must to make this work. That sucks...

That would be simply ridiculous, to make the tuner an option and leave the ports there. It blatantly implies that you can use the ports without the tuner. MEH!

(I am continuing to have no luck. I think I'll call AW.)

EDIT: So I talked to tech support at AW confirmed that the ports are useless without the tuner, and they leave them there because that's the way the case is built [by Arima].

well that sucks... I really would love to buy a tuner card to put in, but last I heard, there were no drivers for xp pro... Has there been any update on that?

I have to say Alienware is really looking stupid in my eyes. Leaving unattached ports, using a non standard coax jack in the tv tuner....whats next?

You actually might be able to get a full refund from alienware w/o a restocking fee on grounds of false advertising. On the .co.uk site it shows that the s-video in is a working port in the description here: http://alienware.co.uk/product_detai...EFAULT#pdp-nav

I think a threat of a talk with the UK version of the better business bureau with regards to false advertising would sort things out nicely.
