What Apps Do You Install First?

Just curious what apps everyone loads after a fresh install of your favorite distro. Interested to see if I'm missing out on anything good. Just sticking to desktop related tools/applications.

Here's mine:
cedega- runs windows games
scummvm- interpreter for lucasarts graphic adventures
dosbox- very good dos emulator
blender- 3d animation package
gimp- image editor. usually comes standard but worth the mention.
jalbum- photo album generator
opera- web browser
pan- the best newsgroup reader ever
bittornado- bittorrent
par2- parity archive checker/repair
gftp- graphical ftp/ssh client
gnomebaker- cd burning
eclipse- java development toolset
bluefish- phenominal html/css editor
amarok- music player/indexer
mplayer- media player
mysqlcc- gui administration client for mysql
mysqladministrator- another mysql administrator
vmware- virtual machine
conky- system monitor
ardour- audio production

on any given day i use 4 programs:

swiftfox -- optimized firefox build
gaim 2.0 -- b/c its better than 1.5
thunderbird -- b/c comcast actually allowes for email progs unlike hotmail
ET -- gotta get my game on somehow right.

other than that:
Beep Media Player (BMP) -- XMMS is REALLY unstable for me
Totem-Xine -- mplayer is great but i want menu support in dvds
Gimp
Gnome-Baker -- k3b is better, but i like to stay partial to gtk (and not load kde)
Boot Up Manager (BUM) -- Totally shaves off some serious seconds off my boot time

Jack/Ardour...

Ok there are more, espsecially other audio stuff, but those are my big ones obviously

on my windows system.. CCleaner, Firefox, and i pretty much never leave the browser, straight to digg.com, here and gmail, and engadget, but i have most of that on my google page,oh and i load ultramon, and yahoo widgets on the other display...for my weather radar, calender, tv listings, and then i open my volume control panel and keep that open over there too,

i just dont care for people posting totally stupid off-topic info. i mean this is obviously a LINUX section of the forums....gee...i wonder if the question was asking about windows setups

You guys have covered most of the apps I install. One is GRIP. Its a great cd ripper and of course DVD::Rip for ripping those DVDs. I still like XMMS over amarok.

Nice find. I just tried out grip and kinda like it. Actually, I don't care for the UI, but it has a ton more features that I need. Sound Juicer doesn't cut it.

I just wish it encoded on-the-fly.

BigTrouble use abcde

Shell script, rips with CDParanoia(The highest quality ripper on linux) tags from FreeDB and encodes into the format of your choice ranging from OGG to MP3 to FLAC and a few others I believe.

Its great to set it up to run when you put in a music cd via ivman

I'll give that a shot too, but grip also uses cdparanioa.
