Best Laptop Cooler for a M1710. I plan on setting the laptop on my lap...

I plan on buying an M1710 in the near future. It will be my first laptop and one of the things I keep reading is how hot they get.

I tried a search but did not find laptop cooler recommendations specifically for the M1710. I plan on setting the laptop on my lap while relaxing in my recliner, if possible.

The laptop coolers I see advertised don't list their dimensions. I don't want the M1710 to be bigger than than the cooler and vice versa. Is there a quality cooler that fits perfectly for this unit and would it be safe (and comfortable) to set the cooler on my legs and the laptop on top of it?

Thanks in advance

You have a specific model to recommend? One about the same W x D as the M1710?

I was looking at the Antec Cooler that Circuit City has.

You mean this one? The dimensions listed are 1.0" W x 1.0" D x 1.0" H. WTH?? **EDIT** Nevermind. Comp USA lists the proper specs, I assume. About 2 inches in width less than the M1710. The same depth though...

Sorry http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...oteBook_Cooler Comp USA has two Antec models. One with a USB port and one without. At least this is an in store item at Comp USA. The one at CC can only be ordered online. It has mostly of positive reviews. I might go to Comp USA to see what this looks like up close but I'm not too crazy about the shape of this thing though and how it would fit under the M1710. Are there any coolers that snap on or can be fastened to the laptop?

all i use for my m1710 is a glass cutting board, they are the perfect size and enable fans to breathe even whilst sitting on the duvet, ive used these cutting boards for a few years on past 17" lappies including sager ones which blow louder than a hoover and have never had problems

So a cooler isn't necessary as long as you have the laptop on something flat? Then why are so many people using them?

when i had my rockdirect 17" (sager) the keyboard got really hot, so much so it started to get uncomfortable and the fact it sounded like a chinook made the use of fan based cooler ideal but honestly i have or have had dells 9300, 9400, xps gen2 and m1710's and none of these including the m1710 wih gtx graphics require anymore cooling than slipping in a glass board underneath. the keyboards get slightly warm but certainly not hot, the bottoms do however get hot and after an our or two would be uncomfortable to place directly on your lap, the cooling properties of the thick glass subdue this heat to a much more acceptable level the only bad thing is that the wife whinges real bad until i got my own, my son has one too for his 9400, alot cheaper and less noisy than a fan based one.

I just put something under the lappy and sitting on a marble table(natural cool). Works for me.

I use the Targus Notebook ChillHub. It's quite, strong (for being plastic), very thin and light. It's recessed in the middle and has rubber feet so it supports M1710 well. It comes with a 4 port USB hub that can be powered using an included power supply. You should be able to buy it in about any Best Buy.

The Targus Notebook Chill Mat is almost the same thing with out the powered USB hub and it's not recessed in the middle so it may not fit as nice with the M1710 but it is much cheaper.
