Fan On ze2000 not working properly

I have an HP Pavilion ze2000. More specifically, its a ze2113us

Anyways, sometime in early june, the laptop (which is GREAT, especially for its price) shut off on me during some casual internet surfing. It wouldn't turn back on, so I left it alone and it turned back on by itself after 20 minutes. Thinking it overheated, I sat down to use it when it promptly shut off again. After that, it would no longer turn on and if it did (which was rare) I would be lucky to get to the XP logon screen before it shut off. I suspected a motherboard problem. I have a five year extended warranty from Fry's so I took it down to the store. A month and a half later, I got a call from Frys telling me my laptop had been fixed, it was sent to HP where the motherboard was replaced and the BIOS was flashed to a newer version. Happy to have my laptop back, I drove home and tried it out, it worked great. I left it sitting on the desktop overnight and it did not shut off. Thinking it was fixed, I loaded up NFS Most Wanted and do a quick race before I left to work.

20 seconds into the race, I heard the fan on the bottom of the laptop rev up louder than it ever had before, then the laptop shut off.

D*mnit!

Before the repair, the fan would turn on quietly and hot air would blow out the back of the laptop (normal behavior).

After it shut off from playing NFS, I turned it back on and discovered that when the fan turns on, not only is it much louder than before, but there is NO air coming out the back. Basically, something is blocking the airflow from the fan. It spins up faster to try and cool itself off, can't, then the laptop overheats and shuts off.

I really, really don't want to lose the laptop for another two months, with school coming back I NEED this thing to work. Any suggestions? Should I take it back to Frys or can anyone give me some advice on opening it, or what may be wrong with it? Using the laptop (I'm typing this on it) is like a time bomb, you dont know when it will shut off.

Thanks for your time,

Sorry that his thread is also posted in the review boards, I do not know how to move it and I asked a mod to move it for me but got no reply. Thanks!

I am starting to wonder, since the motherboard was replaced, what if the CPU heatsink was replaced? I'm thinking what if there was some sort of protective film or plastic on it and it was not taken off, so the protective film/plastic is blocking the airflow? If so, do you think it will melt away with the heat of the CPU heatsink? I've noticed the problem is not as bad as it was before. If it is slowely melting away, will it harm the comptuer in any way (or just leave a small bit of residue on the edge of the heatsink)?

Thanks,
