processor running a bit hot.....

well, right now im in bed so its higher than usual, but im idleing as of now, and with a fan blowing my rooms air around, only about 75F, the CPU is idleing at 69-70C with the fan on High.... This seems a bit high, even on the my targus coolpad which isnt that great, but anyway on that it still idles at about 50, and works its way up on low fans to 60 and then back down... anybody think i should get a CPU replacement?

That definitely sounds hot to me. Ambient temperature is somewhere around 70F I'd say. Also sitting in bed with my E1705, no cooling pad under it. Fan currently hovering between off and slow, running temp control on I8Kfangui. CPU recorded as peaking at 45, currently at 37.

I'd consider calling Dell when you get a chance.

Have you ever cleaned out the heatsink? I can almost assure you its because of dust build up.

It could be I9Kfangui as well. I had a version a few weeks back that reported the wrong cpu temperature. One day I noticed it at 65C and thought that I had never seen the temp that high before for the cpu. I kept watching the temp reading waiting to see if it was going to keep going up and and it dropped to 35C instantly. I looked at it again later and it was showing 37C and a few minutes after that it was back to 69C. I couldn't figure it out so I went back to an older version of I9kfangui and it has worked like a charm since.

well, i cleaned out my vents not that long ago, so i doubt thats the problem (like 1 month tops) and i dont think its reading wrong, when i touch the botttem of my laptop or rest it on my legs, its uncomfortably hot

EDIT: just looked at the CPU usage in my Task manager and my "system idle process is toggling from 88%- 100%.... is this a problem?

Cleaned out how? And the 88-100% system idle usage isnt a problem its the next tab over, performance, that should tell you what the cpu usage is.

ok.... lol that wass wierd, it must have just been something in the processes that was messing up... because after a reboot its back down to a 40-55C temp bracket, much better lol

You shouldn't need to clean the vents out. You have a Core Duo so how old can the laptop be? Any machine under a year old *should* be fine unless you are used to using the machine in a duststorm.
