9890 motherboard in my old 9860 - a driver question

A few of you read about my problems with my 1.3year old 9860 which has had now 2 motherboard replacments. The most recent was 2 weeks ago.

The good news is that what was replaced was the latest CLEVO motherboard, a 9890 motherboard, but to save money, I had Sager take out the 6900Go Nvidia card and put it in the 9890 motherboard. All is fine with that. But I noticed an anomally on the driver site for Sager.

Here's the email I wrote them today: I would appreciate this group's feedback too. Thank you!

As you know the process done on my Sager was to remove the defective 9860 motherboard and replace with a 9890 motherboard.

Also, the Nvidia 6800 GPU was taken from the old motherboard and inserted into the new 9890 motherboard.

Now, my question is this – the driver that I’m using CURRENTLY is the driver from the Sager site under 9860 HOWEVER under the 9890 category the LATEST Nvidia driver (NOT for the 7800 nad 7900) is dated 23-Jun-06 but has a VERSION NUMBER LOWER (version 83.02) than the driver from the 9860 category which is version number 29-Mar-06 but is version 84.22

Do you see my dilemma? So my question is which is TRULY the MOST RECENT version and the one best suited for my “hybrid” machine? Do you guys ENJOY driving us customers CRAZY (just kidding) Seriously though, please take the time to write me back and educate me!

From the 9890 category:
Windows XPNVIDIA Video driver for Windows XP (Version 83.02) 23-Jun-06 21882 KB

From the 9860 category:

allen (from Sager) emailed me back and said to use the 83.02 driver from the 9890 driver site.

He said that "power management" was better.

I'm not sure that's a good enough reason for me as I'm always plugged in to A/C.

Besides HOW DO YOU ACCESS POWER MANAGEMENT SETTINGS for the Nvidia card.

Anyway, it doesn't seem to work as "fast" ... just gut feel - no benchmark tests.

I recently upgraded my original 9860 to 9890 so that Sager could install the 7900GTX vid card. I'm using driver version 91.37 that I got from here:

From the Nvidia control panel, you can adjust how much power the card uses based on power availability.
