go 7900gtx artifacts

I just installed a go 7900gtx 512mb to replace my 7800gtx. After installing the 7900, I now am getting some video corruption/artifacts. I get a bunch of tiny red dots that cluster in similair areas. This happens at the windows desktop as well as in games like battlefield 2. I'm using the drivers that came with the included cd, 84.78. I also tried using 84.22 and nothing changed. Any ideas?

Are you able to check the clock settings/frequency on the card? I would try to do that in the nvidia panel (I am not familiar with this process - as I don't overclock). Once you get them - I would compare with others and see if they are the same range or higher. It could be that the card was shipped at higher than normal settings (for whatever reason) and thus artifacting.

I know some drop the settings to get rid of artifacting, but if you have a card that is at the correct settings, and everything else is correct - I would assume it is a bad card and talk with whomever you purchased it from/tech support.

Good luck - artifacting sucks. I had that case with my GX7 before Hypersonic replaced the video card. It really ruins your computing experience.

I don't even know how to unlock the nvidia control panel so you can do/see that. Is that something I can do with one of the inf files off laptopvideo2go? I talked with hypersonic today, they are sending me a new card.

I think the new card is definitely the way to go - so glad to see you are getting it. It will also help with your piece of mind.

My information above is in case you were continuing to troubleshoot.

As for unlocking the control panel - I have to check on that. I haven't been in there for quite some time - as I am not a clocker. Will check and get back to you. But glad that the replacement card is coming.

Good luck!

If you don't play with the settings - then there is a good chance you don't know about the tools. Myself - I don't change any clock settings at all. I am happy with the way the system runs and don't want to risk messing anything up. No matter how safe it may be - Murphy seems to come knocking on my door a lot.

So... no, you weren't rude - but not everyone is up on modding/tweaking/etc tools - especially if they aren't using them. I do read a lot of posts on NBF - but if it isn't something I am interested in - it doesn't stick with me.

Thanks for the answer.
