Sudden Power Shut off

Hello there,
I was playing civilization 3 when my laptop just shut off. No slow gameplay beforehand, no error message, no warninng at all. I had it on my desk and I have a cooling plate under it at all times. I tried to turn it on, but nothing. No activity what-so-ever. Not even battery activity or lights, just nothing. Any ideas?

Mobo, power converter. are the 2 things I can think of.
Maybe the fan inside is not working properly or there is little/non thermal paste.
If you get to boot and go into the OS, try to read the system errors.

I'm having the same problem. I was playing World of Warcraft and my laptop turned off. I haven't been able to power it on. I thought it might have overheated so I let it sit for an hour.

I plugged the AC back in and the Power/AC light turned orange, then the battery light turned orange indicating it was charging. I pressed the power button and the Power/AC light goes green, and the blue lights around the power/email/explorer buttons turn on, then in 3 seconds all lights go black, and the screen never turns on. Pressing the power button afterwards does nothing, and all LED lights remain black.

If I unplug and re-plug the AC cord the LED lights will go orange again, but the same thing happens when I try to power up.

I'll try what Shira said but does anyone know if this could be a hardware problem? I've never dealt with Sagers service and support before, any tips?

I tried the battery deal, and no go. I can see where this is going. Pretty crappy product if its the mobo after only a year. I have computers still running after 5 years w/o a glitch.

I called support and they said it sounds like a motherboard problem after I described the symptoms. Its in the mail right now, but luckily I was still under warranty, which I think I'm going to extend

i was right then. The same thing happened to my hp xf328 3 months after the warranty ran out. Needless to say, the laptop is picking up dust in the corner of my room.

Man, I just bought an Area-51m used and now I have the same problem after described above. I tried the test described by Shira and nothing.

Contacted Alienware and they informed me that warranties are not transferable so I can't even get Alienware to help me...

Anyone else know a solution or a relaible 3rd party repair place to get this fix?

well contact the seller
See if he can do something for you.
I once sold a gateway on eBay. The lady contacted me 3 months later that it crashed.
I told her as long as she paid for shipping both ways, i would fix it for free.
In this case all he has to say is that he moved to your address. or ship it back to him and tell him to call Alienware so you can get it repaired and pay shipping both ways.
That or you can pretend to be him, tell Alienware that you moved and see if they fall for it

luckily he lives not to far from me, so I will try that.
