hi all , i ordered an m90 with 17 inch wuxga but what i got is wxga , now i talked to dell and they can do shit , i have to return and reorder , i want to know if there is another way to replace my screen and how
post #2 of 50
Yeah, tell them to send out an onsite tech to replace it or you'll sue or something. They would be in deep crap because they somewhat scammed out of of money for a shit screen.

Yes, the screen can be replaced. All they have to do is remove a few screws and put the LCD in.

in contrast, you may go with the return/reorder strategy. BUT!!! only after you have completely reamed dell and got many many free upgrades that you didnt originally order.

Make them pay for their mistake and lack of caring.

He meant to say, "I ordered a Dell M90 in the outlet and for some reason I thought it had a WUXGA screen when in reality it only had a WXGA screen. Please see my post in the M90 outlet thread for details on the notebook I ordered. Here's the link: http://www.notebookforums.com/post2332159-39.html."

ok i will call them tomorrow before i go to work and i would tell them i wqant to speak with a supervisor or a manager and i will tell him to send an on site replacement but i know that they would say they cant and try to put me on hold for hours like they did before.
by the way how much should a screen cost me if i want to get it

You can't make changes to an Dell Outlet system after the fact...period. Believe me, I tried. What you get is what you got. If you try to return it to Dell for a refund because they won't let you change something, they can and will charge you a 20% restocking fee. It is not Dell's fault that the computer didn't have something that you wanted. You ordered a set configuration from the Dell Outlet. Live with it.

I seriously doubt your order says true life. That's not even an option.

I does not say Ultra Wide. It says UltraSharp.

You ordered a WXGA screen and got one. No fault of Dell.

17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+ Notebook Screen

This is what wolf1306 ordered and he got an XGA+ screen. The problem is that the Outlet said it was an Ultrasharp screen, a WUXGA. The outlet likely made a mistake in labeling the screen as an "UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+" since Dell only offers an XGA+ and WUXGA.

I have the EXACT same problem on the M90 I purchased...

So if Dell put the wrong description then not honor what is written this is call the dishonest act that means fails advertisement. Contact the BBB let them know what just happened and I'll garanty Dell will send you your LCD. The same thing happened to my Dad. He ordered a new Desktop with the Dell upgrade 24" LCD and they sent him a 19" LCD because someone put the order in. So my dad called dell and they gave him the same thing that they are doing to you. He called the BBB and they sent him the 2407LCD. Make sure you have actual proof of typo error. Because if my Dad didn't have the documents to backup his complaint he would have been stuck with the 19"LCD. I hope this will help.

No, this isnt the case here, wolf ordered this system:

http://www.notebookforums.com/post2332159-39.html

Intel Core Duo processor T2600 (2.16GHz/667Mhz)
9 Cell Primary Battery
Bluetooth Wireless Card
17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+ Notebook Screen
3945 802.11a/g Wireless Mini Card
Genuine Windows XP Pro
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs)
130W AC Adapter
120 GB EIDE Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M (dedicated), OpenGL
8x DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability

And that is exactly what he got. It does not say anywhere on this order that he was getting an WUXGA True Life. In fact True Life is not an option on the M90.

I know Dell makes its share of mistakes but this was not Dell's mistake.

You made a mistake and you can either return the system and order the configuration you want or call Dell and order an WUXGA LCD for full price and install it yourself. Dell does not allow you to make changes to a outlet system.

You got exactly what you ordered.

A "17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+ Notebook Screen" is an XGA+ screen NOT an "17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA.

UltraSharp does not mean it is an WUXGA resolution.
Screen options for the M90 are
1) WXGA+
2) WUXGA, Wide UltraSharp XGA

The outlet said he was ordering
1) 17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+ Notebook Screen

Dell made the mistake of calling their XGA+ screen an UltraSharp screen.

Dell made the mistake of calling their XGA+ screen an UltraSharp screen.

There are many different UltraSharp resolutions, UltraSharp is Dell marketing name for there highend panels. WUXGA does not mean "UltraSharp XGA" It means UltraXGA. Again you got what you ordered.

In fact Dell has 17", 19", and 20" UltraSharp Widescreen Panels and none of those are UXGA resolution.
Thanks for the info, you're right it is UltraXGA

man I really thought i was getting a UltraSharp screen meaning UXGA!

I've been looking at the outlet more after ordering my system and Dell's labeling is odd

for the m90 i've seen
1) Wide Screen WXGA+
2) Ultrasharp Wide Screen WXGA+
3) Ultrasharp WUXGA

well if I made the mistake I'm returning my M90, but I still think dell made a mistake of listing 3 different types of LCDs when they only offer 2 on new systems.
