Removing Dell's annoying software

Thread Starter
Ok, I don't know a whole lot about computers, I just purchased a new one. I would like to remove all of the crap dell has put on it. Can someone point me to directions on how to do this? I have a regular copy of windows xp pro that I purchased a year ago. I'm getting backup CD's sent to me also. I'm terrified of messing something up. Can someone help? I have no idea about partitions, and drivers, and everything.

Also, are there any tests that I can run on my computer to make sure everything is working and everything is there that should be? All my hardware and everything? And to make sure it's as fast as it's supposed to be?

Thanks,

Ash

You can remove the bloatware manually, but it's probably much easier to just reformat a new machine and then reinstall Windows. This is a great guide to follow.

Everest and CPU-Z are programs which can help show you what's in your machine and whether all is working properly. Also, info in the Device Manager and Control Panel can show you much about your system.

Ok... so I looked at the link ~ thanks for the link btw ~ About the disabling of the indexing service, should I disable it for all of C:\ and it's subfolders or just C:\ ?
