9300 taking a year to start

So I don't know why but my lappy is now taking 2 years to start. I have ran hijack this and removed all unessecary startup items and when I turn my computer on it shows my wallpaper for about 30 seconds before it finally boots up. Only thing I did to the comptuer was take off my old expired norton and install AVG which I used to have on it and it worked fine. I have tried a system restore, well about 20 and it keeps saying my computer can't be restored. Any help guys?

I found that the file sptd.sys from damien tools slows it down. I got rid of that and it is still as slow. I need help.

I had the same problem last week. No idea how it happened. Luckily, I had a recent Ghost image. After restoration, the boot time was back to normal.

short of performing a clean install, i would revisit the norton area again (services, registry), knowing norton, a normal app removal would do no good - it just suddenly becomes spyware - i guess it is norton's way of payback for removing their app

No it is just saying that it can't be restored to that point. I only have 35 processed which is down from the 40's. Computer runs great once on, just slow on the boot up.
