Hi Guys,

I have a serious problem with my lappy . So when couple days ago, my lappy started to go into this forever loop whenever I turn on the power. It'll loop into a blue error screen several times before I can get into windows.

Then, one time when I tried to power on the lappy, it tells me "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\windows\system\vgaoem.fon

Then it asks me to use the recovery disc to fix the problem, I tried that but the system coudln't find my C drive at all.

Did I fried my hard drive? what's going on here....pls help! I got the system in May 05, it's only been a year!

thanks!

Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315338

It could be failed becuase you need the Promise RAID controller driver from AW's site, but that's usually to load XP.... I don't know if you need it to repair.

Hi again everyone,

So I tried the solution listed above, it won't let me copy the file to my HD. So I went through the system repair itself and it's telling me that it cannot locate my HardDrive I then restarted my lappy and went into the Bios and still the HD is not listed anywhere. So I think that my HD is probably fried.

My lappy is now out of warranty so it's cost cost me an arm and a leg to fix it! Is it possible to replace the HD yourself? Any AW authorized parts dealer in Los Angeles? How much does the HD run in general? I have the Hitachi Notebook 60GB 7200RPM Enhanced HD.

Thanks everyone!

If it's just the hard drive, you can buy one from Newegg and replace it yourself. Easy and fairly cheap.

However, it might be the motherboard and not the hd. If that's the case you'll probably need to find a repair shop that works on Clevo platforms.

Try these guys. They're in California, and they work on Clevo stuff.

would this HD work on my 7700?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Custra...82E16822146034

on my AW invoice, it just says:

MOBL-HD60GB7200RPME Hitachi Notebook 60GB 7200RPM Enhanced HD Hard Drive

I think they will. Aren't ATA-6 and ATA100 the same thing?

okay, so I did some research on the forum and looks like THIS might also solve the issue I am having as you had stated b4.

Now, my next question is I went to AW's site and there are two drivers for the Promise Raid Controller driver, which one am I suppose to use? Also, my HD isn't RAID, it's ATA/NTSF will the driver work?

thanks again

Angela-
Use the non-RAID driver since you aren't running RAID. RAID doesn't matter what you HDD connection is. ATA or SATA the drivers just help w/ XP seeing your hard drives via the Promise controller, which they're connected to.
