F4000 Battery Wear Level now at 41% !!

My F4000 is now aprox. 1y2m old. I have been using it very much to write my PhD thesis and for games, ect. Normally I only have it on A/C when charging the battery. However I forgot this a couple of days ago, where the battery wear level was at 31% - I left it in the charger for 3 days and now the wear level has increased to 41%. I'm wondering if there might be a problem with the charger in my laptop resulting in overcharging and thereby wearing out of the battery?

I guess I'll buy a new battery real soon. The question is, if I should be extra carefull with the new battery so that it wont wear out as quickly as the one I have right now....

Just out of curiosity how long does your battery last? My Ferrari is approximately the same age as yours and I keep it plugged on for 6-7 days. I usually discharge the battery once every week or two and it lasts for 2:45-3:00 when doing office work(i.e. using Word, surfing the web).

I've had my ferrari for 13 months and my battery lasts 2 hours... When I use battery I use max brightness and wifi, everything else is just basic web browsing and msn. How do I check the wear level? I remember I had a program that did it but I forget the name. Also, I use it like Psychotic_UK, I only drain the battery like once a week.

Wombatten, I remember from the forums that I got my Ferrari about the same time as you did. I'm showing 40% battery wear. Although I've tried to remember to use battery power and unplug it when the battery was charged--I've frequently left the computer plugged into A/C. I discharge it an average of at least 2 or 3 times a week during normal use. Spartos

With the 40% wear level I get a maximum of 2 hrs (with bluetooth disabled and approx 70% brightness). Not very impressive...

My wear level is at 17%. I ordered my Ferrari at the end of June last year. I leave my Ferrari plugged in all the time except for maybe once a week when I use it on my couch until it gets down to 10%. Other than that the only time I use the battery is transporting around the house from one outlet to the next.

Mobile Meter says:

Designed Capacity 71040 mWh
Fully Charged Capacity 58445 mWh
Wear Level 17%

If you're still under warranty just wreck the battery and get it replaced, lol. <- I don't recommend that. You could always get a Dell battery and just have your entire laptop explode. I could be killed if I typed that in the Dell forum...

I'm getting about 2 hrs and 10 minutes--But, of course, that varies with what I'm doing. So I usually have to plug it back into A/C at around 1 hr 45 minutes in order to be safe. Agreed, this is not very impressive--but then, battery life on the Ferrari 4005 was a dissappointment from the beginning given the hopes that were expressed for the Turion. Spartos

I agree, before I bought my Ferrari all the reviews said 3 hours and 45 minutes battery life, the most I used to get was 2 hours and 30 minutes with the backlight turned down.

It might be interesting to compile some battery stats on this sucker.

Here's what I have after having Ferrari for 1 year:

Designed Capacity 71040 mWh
Fully Charged Capacity 67222 mWh
Wear Level 5%

I leave my laptop on all the time (just close the lid when I'm done using it), rarely discharge the battery, leave it plugged in 95% of the time. As I understand it, Li-ion batteries don't really need to be discharged on a regular basis, if at all. And it would appear, based upon my usage habits, that that would be true as after using battery for over a year with only 5% loss in capacity isn't too bad.

Owning my Ferrari 4005 for 17 months now --my battery wear level is currently at 53% according to MobileMeter.

That's an increase of 12 percentage points wear since August 14 of this year (was 40% when I posted back then)

My use was largely on battery until I read this thread three months ago. Since then I've been using A/C as much as possible but I still have frequent battery use.

TM8200 7 month old, 6% wear level, 95% plugged, 20 hour/day.

I'm at 14% here for my 4005 bought the first month they were out (June of 2005). I really only discharge the thing about once every few months, and it's practically always plugged in.

Current Li-Ion battery are design for about 500 full charge/discharge cycles. So leaving it pluged in 24/7 should only cost minimal wear. It's actually worst if you contantly charge and discharge it. I discharge mine about once every 2 months. However, the chemical used in the battery also have a effective lifespan of about 4 years so even if you really baby your battery, you'll most likely lose a cell (which will amke the whole pack useless) at that point.

I am at 62% wear on a 1 yr-old 5672 battery. Consider yourselves lucky.

And mine runs on power most of the time like most of the people here.

Just to update the record....

The battery wear level on my 19 month old Ferrari 4005 is now at 55%--has increased only 2% in the past 2 months since I last posted to this thread.

16 months old, 5% wear, only on battery by mistake.

Hehe...Dumb me..

I've been using my ferrari on battery most of the time. By now the wear level is up to 62% - so I have bought a new battery.. I now get 3h30m of battery life in stead of the 1h40 min.. But I did pay big money for this... I guess I will not discharge the new battery as often as I did before, and leave it in the charger as much as possible.

Yeah, I'm going to have to buy another battery soon also. I wish someone would make a high capacity replacement battery for the Ferrari. 4 1/2 hours instead of 3 1/2 hours when the battery is new would be nice.

40% wear lvl for jsut 1 year 2 months kidna too much, my ferrari is 1 year 5 months n wear lvl only 11%, maybe the way you use it made it the higher wear off lvl??

for my case, i nvr go lower then 30% when charging it. When it is full, i will straight away plug it out the batt if on ac for long.

i also notice when in off mode, nvr charge it as it tend to kill the batt faster, happened to me on my 8104
