XP Home, XP Media Center (w/remote), XP Pro

Hey guys a bit off topic but yet also related as I am about to order up a Sentia and am really not sure which version of XP I would need.

I currently run w2k if that tells ya anything, anyways I am curious about the Media Center version, mainly on the laptop I plan to watch movies, make edit burn vcds/dvds (shrink, dvdsanta, decrypter, nero), listen to music (winamp), create and edit music (soundforge/audiocatylst etc) so appearance wise media center might be more to my liking vs home or pro, I always thought of pro as being for more security and networking/business applications and adjustments, for me I turn laptop on and connect to my wireless modem, I don't even share files or printers etc..

Was just hoping for some input and or info as to deciding what is the best OS for me at this time on this 3450 sentia I am about to order.

Also to those who may have gotten media center is the remote handy or not?

The only difference is 1(One) extra application called media center.
It is rather useless(reg XP does everything it can do) unless you find urself in one of these very specific situations:

1) (Unmodded!)Xbox w/ extender disc or Xbox 360
Then MCE unleashes some extra power to these consoles, but very little extra for the actual computer

2) A Home theater PC, this PC runs your home theater, then MCE is a good choice as it gathers most of the related utilities into one App.

3) A computer that will connect to another running a copy of MCE
The app allows a cleaner interface when this is the case.

But unless you fit into one of these 3 specific categories, MCE is rather useless. Keep in mind if u can hold ur wad till Janurary: Most versions if not all of Vista will contain an updated version of MCE.

Man I am tryin to hold out but the 3450 is tempting me, i think the dual core 1.8 and the xp media edition would meet my basic needs for a good 5-6 more years here, heck I JUST upgraded my home pc to xp pro last week (was using w2k for years here)...

They keep dropping prices on that 3450 tho and I am so close to just ordering one up...

I had been waiting since Oct of 2005 for a laptop btw, was gonna get the sentia 3200, then saw the 3450's recently with so many extras and features, just had been waiting for AW to put out some new color cases, so I am overdue on ordering one bigtime here... Not sure how much longer I could wait for my laptop here...

Besides I Mainly use it for dvds, making dvds, listening to music and some basic photoshop/webdesign stuff - and of course surfin web/emails.

Thanks for the reply on differences tho.

The 3450 is a culmination of tech for the last 4 years and is already dead weight. Computers dont last 6-8 years, laptops are lucky to get 2-3. The 3450 is gunna be severely dated in a matter of 2 months!!! This is not a materr of marginally bigger and faster, this is a industry wide shift to new technology! and its gunna leave the 3450 crying for mommy!

I am telling you technology truth, if you dont like the answer, dont ask the question. On the other hand if you cant wait an extra 2 months you deserve a has been laptop.

Cherio!!
