hey guys
anyone use their spdif output? on my pc i use it running to my home reciever to get 5.1 digital souround. thing is im using rca from pc to receiver.

the output on my laptop is like a headphone minijack. so my question is what should i use to go from mini jack to rca in. ive asked best buy circut city and radio shack and they dont have any kind of adapter. ive tried using one of my rca y connecters with a mini headphone jack and jus plugged in my red rca to my reciever but it only gets 2 front speakers. and it says "linear pcm". when i go to my realtek settings and set my spdif out and 6channel or 4 channel speakers it still only uses my 2 front speakers. negative on the center channel 2 rear channles and sub woffer. any suggestions?

well i bought numerous amount of chords... mini jack to rca and toslink to rca converter... the thing is there isnt even a red light signal coming out of the spdif out so im guessing its a driver issue... i googled and nothing but people lookin for the same answer... its a mystery. i get 2 channels of left and right audio using my mini jack to rca. theres no way to call realtek but i emailed them and no reply. i asked hypersonic but they only put the laptop together they wont have the answer to why spdif out doesnt work if they already have a headphone and onboard speakers already working

I haven't fooled w/SPDIF yet (my CX7 is in final re-testing), but I have fooled w/ a lot of audio connections over the years.

From what I've read, it appears you can use a mono mini-jack to RCA converter, then RCA to the digital coax input of your receiver. I don't know if using a stereo mini-jack/splitter would make a negative difference, possibly.

Now you have me anxious to test it out when my CX7 arrives. If you haven't resolved it by then, I will let you know if mine works.

yeap i bought an actual 3.5 mini to rca mono cord. and put it to my coax digital in and i only get digital left and right. when i put it on 6 channel still only get left and right fronts. i tried using my toslink converter same results. plus there isnt even a red light that comes out of the spdif port

As I've been researching S/PDIF in anticipation of my CX7, I have not been able to determine exactly what type of S/PDIF port is on the notebook.

The two types I have dealt with on various equipment are RCA 75 ohm coax and optical Toslink. There is also TTL.

One of the things I read indicated that there was an optical 1/8 connector type.

So the question is, what format of S/PDIF is coming out of the computer?

yeap

been to that site...

i googled the hell out of that spdif topic and got nothing. and i got no reply from realtek. i guess going for onboard audio is the result of cheap crap not with my pc that supports coaxial spdif.

lame......
