Sentia won't turn on and battery does not get charged

Aloha,

I have a sentia with a 2Ghz Pentium M. not sure of the model number of hand but it is the silver case and black handles. Well the laptop was working fine for a few months after I bought it used. Now with the battery will not hold a charge it seems. I plug the charger in and none of the LEDs come on in the corner of the laptop. But the charger light is on. And I bought another charger of the same wattage to see if it was the charger. The battery also sucks as it can only do like 20 mins or so before beeping to death. The battery could last longer before but I think since we normally don't cycle the battery and leave it on the charger all the time that may be the cause of it dying. I was hoping someone could please help in answering a couple of questions that I have:

1) What is wrong?

2) Is it possible to boot without the battery and just have the charger power the laptop?

3) Do you think it is my battery and I should replace it?

Looks like u fried your laptop sorry.

If it's just the battery, the laptop should boot when its plugged in. THe most common cause that I have seen for what you are describing is a bad motherboard.

how much do you think something like mine is worth?

Mine did a similar thing recently. Problem was a dead bios battery. Undo the panel below the black alienware sticker, take out the wireless card (if there is one) and you will see a button cell battery. Take that out and get a new one.

Hope that helps

$25 bucks really that is it. find that hard to believe.

anyway good news. tried one more time to plug charger cable into laptop and BOOM it started charging. charged battery to full capacity and now the laptop works fine.

ok this may not be much help but i think mine does that, espeically if its just overheated or the battery has gone complaetly flat and its shut off in the middle of me using it.
the charger light is on but none of the leds on the front are on. it wont turn on when the AC in plugged in or if there are batterie in it and the battery wont charge? sound right? well anyway first time it happened i got annoyed, pulled the cable and battery out and thumped the laptop on the desk and then plugged the AC back in and it worked.
it happens quite a lot to me so now if it does i just turn the laptop over take the battery out n give it a sharp knock (around about where the AC cable gets plugged in) seems to work for me, though sometimes needs a few hits beofre it works again.

i know this sounds a bit brutal, but i guess if it works then its better than my laptop being a paperweight
