So is it just me or is the wait for the release of merom driving alot of people nuts!!!!!!!! I'm starting to wonder if Intel is having second thoughts about even bringing it out...actually I know from reading an article that Intel is no hurry to release because of the minor increases in technology between C2D and CD. Me personally I just want a faster CPU then this one I have now....getting bored with it already!!!! So i'm thinking of just getting the T2600 (or finding a engineering sample of merom) and saying screw the merom!!!! Either that or it would be nice to see some faster core dou's....I wish Intel would get motivated already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry Core2Duo is cumming. Even Apple is confirming it. Intel has to make core2duo because it supports 64bit, that's what people expect and besides core2duo for notebooks is basically the desktop equivalent with better power savings and limited FSB.

Hey, justintime74 do you work in the auto industry?

Any news? I assume it'll be any day, but the sales reps still know nothing (seems typical - Dell doesn't allow anyone to interpret or give more info than the prescribed text). Still, I am dying to get a new M90!!

...and the wait continues...

Analysts that cover Intel are saying that all signs point to an August 31st or September 1st launch of Merom. So it looks like there will be at least another two week wait, but the good news is that Intel says they have been shipping Meroms to manufacturers, thought they haven’t disclosed or given an idea on how many units they are shipping, so several Merom notebooks should be available the day the processors are released.

Some of notebook manufacturers are already let you pre-order Merom already. I guess Dell will start this soon also.

Are these the same analysts who said that Core 2 desktops will be available before Merom laptops?

I've already mentioned this twice but since this is yet another Merom thread:
If you configure a Dell Core 2 desktop on their web site, it will be at least a 2 month wait till it ships. What does that say about the Merom laptops being available anytime soon?

Dude, you're getting a dell! For Winter Solstace!

My coworker just ordered a XPS700 with core 2 duo extreme and the estimated ship date is December 22nd...

Merom notebooks for Spring Equinox?

All it really tells me is that you are configuring a system with a long lead time that likely has nothing at all to with Conroe since Dell has shipped and is shipping Core2Duo boxes today.

I would have to agree...if I wanted a C2D for my desktop I would have no problem getting it right now through Newegg or whoever???

Hmmm, just tested that and the 9200 I spec'd had an est. delivery time of 9/19. Not great, but Dell seems to be always faster, so a few weeks.

I'd guess the XPS is unique.

All I know is I'm willing to wait about another 3 weeks before I say **** it and order a M1710 from Tech.

I don’t know about the lack of availability of the Core 2 Duo desktops, I assumed they were readily available since the processors were available from places like MicroCenter. Yesterday my area Circuit City, CompUSA, and Best buy had desktops with Core 2 Duo processors.

I don’t why Dell is dragging its feet for on the inclusion of Core 2 Duo, but I don’t think you can say that you have to wait 2 months to get any Core 2 Duo desktop, it’s just two months to get a Core 2 Duo Dell desktop for some strange reason. If you order a customized Gateway or HP desktop today, their websites say they’ll ship out around 9/01. Maybe Dell is trying to clear out an excess stock of Pentium D’s before they make Core 2 Duo a timely, readily available option. Or maybe there are some compatibility issues that they haven’t squared away. However whatever Dell’s reason for delaying their Core 2 Duo desktops, none of those issues mean that Merom is going to take months after launch to make its way into notebooks, maybe Dell notebooks if they follow whatever logic they are using for desktops, but there is no way to say that all or even most manufacturers are going to drag there feet in introducing Merom notebooks.

hmmm, core 2 duo soudns exciting, especially for laptops. im almost hoping that alienwares next laptop with a merom processor will be as cool of a case upgrade as their p2 case =D. is core 2.. really as good as they say it is?

jav - make sure you are looking at different models. What seems to delay the XPS line is the gaming cards, not the chipset.

The Precision's with Core 2 Duo chips are shipping in less than 2 weeks. Seems reasonable to me. (9/5)

Dimension 9200 eta of 9/20

XPS has an eta of 11/1
