ColdSun's Area-51 m5750 Review - Page 4

Well, on ATI's site, they do have the mobility x1800 xt.... and its supposed to be an MXM PCI-E Slot.

It has more piplines, faster bus, and faster RAM.. the upgrade would have decent potential.

Product Pixel Shader Pipelines Vertex Shaders Core Clock Speed
Mobility Radeon X1800 XT 16 8 550 MHz
Mobility Radeon X1800 12 8 450 MHz

Anyone know if you can overclock the core on ATI Mobilities? I noticed ours is -underclocked- to 400... its supposed to be 450.

Kalison, what settings do you have WoW on, and how is the FPS in major cities? IF, Org, SW.

I play WoW on 1920x1200 full settings and yes... maxed AF ( I dont run AA, mainly because at 1920x1200 on an 17" screen doesnt really improve anything, AF improves a lot though). It runs beautifully. Sometimes you will get into a large city and it will look empty... because the server hasnt sent you the info on all the players yet . I dont have FPS numbers for you, mainly because I was too impressed that I was walking around Org without getting choppy play... it was silky smoooooooth. My friends couldnt believe it... especially coming from a laptop. Sometime this week I will have a review up.

ati tool u can normaly OC it...

i wonder why we didn't get to have the same GPU as the superman addition...
I tried the ATI Tool.... but it doesnt seem to hold. Well at least its not the X1800 XT in the Superman Edition. I would have spent more to get that.

Would be pretty sweet to have an XT running at 550mhz though

@Coldsun: You order a single HDD configuration right? Did alienware gave you the accesories to add a second HDD (cable, bracket, etc)? Or we have to purchase it separately?
They are supposed to send you the second HDD Cage and Cables... however they screwed up and didnt send mine. I called CS and they are shipping it out to me, no charge.

lol if you think you can run an x1800XT. that would chew up more power then that laptop could handle. hence why they arent made for laptops

Smart guy? Check out ATI's site... they make an X1800XT Mobility. MXMIII Standard. Thanks for posting.

would be awesome if they make the X1800 XT as an option for the m5750 wonder if they could get it for you and put it in if you ask them when you order it.

looking at an m5750

I'm also looking at getting an m5750. It seems like a perfect mix of gaming power and practical work use.

Has anybody tried running Oblivion on it and how did it go? I'm going to be playing NWN2 when it comes out and it has the same recommended specs as Oblivion. I'm asking because I don't know processors very well and I'm hung up on the fact that the Core 2 Duo T7200 is only 2Ghz and NWN2 is not a multithreaded game. I understand that clock speeds may not be a good way to compare two different processor generations but would appreciate some advice.

I have seen some threads were others have tried oblivion and they say that it would run nicely but have to mod it to run faster. seems what I have read that the 7900gs is the most practible for that game to run smooth. I am really thinking between the m5750 or dell E1705, very hard choice for me.

Alienware m5750 = Awesome looks, higher priced, lower gpu power
Dell E1705 = (to me) crappy looks, no full keyboard, but awesome in benchmarks.

If anyone would choose between the two, please pm me what you would go for.

I had the same dilemma. I know I could have gotten higher perfomance of e1705 (NV 7900GS) for less $$$ but I went for AlienWare which I always wanted. Primarily it was coz of the "image" and reputation that AW has, supposingly solid construction vs. squeeking Dell and also 2nd disk and option of 1440x900 Bright display played some part in it...

Anyway, good luck with your choice

Sorry to see you had problems with your 5750, Blackbull, but mine has been perfect since I got it. In fact, I don't even use my desktop anymore as it outperforms it by a good margin. So to update everyone, I am still extremely happy with my 5750 and don't regret my choice to buy it at all.

P.S. Every game I throw at this thing runs flawlessly. The only one I haven't tried is that new tactical squad based FPS "ghost" something. I've seen that game run on some nice computers and I feel the game itself is a piece of junk. Oblivion runs so nice. I'll be getting Neverwinter Nights 2 and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic soon I hope.

P.S.S. I'm in the beta for Supreme Commander (a new RTS with ties to Total Annihilation) and it runs smooth as silk. Can't wait for this game to come out.

Coldsun, Im happy to hear that your 5750 its working great for the Supreme Commander RTS beta. This is the one game I am so much anticipating for. I haven't had a chance to dload the beta and of course I know you would need a key, however, since my computer is so bad and outdated, I am not going to bother and wait til the new computer Hopefully a new 5750 to purchase. Im pretty sure when the final release one comes out it will be optimized much better for even smoother gameplay.
