Anti-virus Software

What is the best anti-virus software out there? I have been using ZoneAlarm Internet Security for a little over one year and I am getting kind of tired of all the resource comsumption. I also hate the Program Control dialog that keeps popping up (I know it can be disabled).

I have hear good things about Panda Titanium. I hear it's very light. I would appreciate having an anti-spyware utility included.

Thanks in advance...

There was just a recent thread on this about a week or so ago.... Search for it

www.avast.com

IMHO its one of the best Anti-Virus softwares out there and best of all the Home edition is completely FREE!! Only need to register on the page and you get a key on your e-mail good for 14 months of updates. After 14 months is up you just re-register and thats it. And no you don't get floded by e-mails and spyware, been using it for years and never ever gotten an e-mail from Avast except for when the key is about to expire.

The default instalation comes optimally configured and it automatically and transparently updates itself and is not obtrusive or power robing at ALL!! A neat little feature it as is that the little task bar icon spins around when its actually scanning something so you know exactly what its doing all the time.

If you do some searching there are various reviews that put it up against Norton, McAfee, PcCillin and such and its always as good or better than all these anti-viruses.

I know that there are recent threads regarding this, but with the ever-changing AV lineup, I feel that a new thread was necessary to get the latest reviews/opinions.

I have heard good things about AVAST, but most rankings don't list it amongst the top 5. It also lacks an anti-spyware feature, which is something I feel is quite important. I don't mind investing money if it's going to be worth the price. Honestly, I like ZA, but I feel that it consumes far too much resources. I feel there are superior alternatives out there.

If you are willing to pay, Trend Micro's Internet Security 2006 is the best out there. Doesn't consume a lot of resources, either

You can purchase and download it at newegg.com for pretty cheap too....

take a look at my thread wherever it is... lol it has a good debate...

I ended up choosing avast. Works really nice and minimal system drag...

Yeah, I ended up switching to Avast as well. I like it, but the scanner is EXTREMELY slow

As far as Symantec Corporate, we use it where I work and it misses malware all day long, unfortunately.

Yeah, I use Windows Defender for malware.

I am also using Avast! - since more than a year now - and I had no problems until now.

Another vote for Symantec AV Corporate Ed. Very lean, doesn't consume a lot of resources. For MALWARE, I use Webroot's SpySweeper. Frequently rated #1 by the editors of the various magazines. Version 5 runs very smoothly (and unobstrusively) on my system.

I hate all those "internet security suite" programs. Complete resource hogs. Windows has a Firewall built in (SP2, or was it SP1?), so I don't need another. And all the other "junk" is just useless, unless, of course, you spend most of your time downloading warez from Russian websites that love to give you little freebies just for visiting their site!!!
