Possible sound card?

I just got the e1705 and I recently looked up some info on that infamous soundblaster option that came with it. So it's just some crappy software and not hardware, right? Wow, what a waste of $25. I was looking around at usb sound cards because I read that externals are better for games and movies and came across the Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External - sound card. looks like a good card for the price. Well I was wondering, if I got this USB sound card, should I uninstall this software I'm getting from Dell?

Also, on the subject of this card, can I get true 5.1 surround sound with it? I mean, I know it's supposed to, but I've heard complaints about it being 1.1 USB and some people said they didn't have enough USB bandwidth. So I was wondering with my brand new laptop, if this would be a problem or not? And with this plugged in, can I still get sound from my laptop's speakers (in better quality), or do I have to have external speakers? Nothing like lugging around a pair of speakers with my notebook.

BTW, what's the best free DVD player software?

I would personally suggest looking into the Soundblaster Audigy NX, which is a usb 2.0 sound card from Creative, that for all intents and purposes, is a superior card to the Live!. It is about half the size of the NX (roughly the size of a normal sized mouse), runs on usb 2.0, and sounds amazing. However, Creative, for some reason, has discontinued the NX, so you will have to try ebay. On the bright side, Creative has an ebay store outlet where they sell refurbished items, including the NX.

I use an Audigy NX with my E1705. Works great.

No. If you want better sound from your internal speakers, get the Audigy MB. This card is for those who want better sound through speakers or headphones.

Someone else bid too much. No offense, but I can get one brand new for not much more than $45. Thanks for the chance though.

There is NO AUDIGY MB for these systems. It is a $25 Creative Audigy software package. Why do people still think there is a separate motherboard with a better sound card?

I dunno, but I wish there was a MB with a better sound card.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say "OTHER MOTHERBOARD WITH AUDIGY INSTALLED ON IT."

Creative brands those "special" drivers as "Creative Audigy MB" Thus, why I called it Audigy MB.

Think before you speak.
