What's up with Samsung LCDs???

Ok, I am new to laptops. I just got a 9300 used, fully modded to a XPS Gen2.

When I got it, it had a screen with Light leakage, and a few dead pixels. It's also really an annoying screen to try to use, as it looks washed out. I figure I got a really good deal, so what the heck, I'll just grab a new LCD off here or Ebay. I opted for a Samsung LTN170WX-L05 17" screen.

I figured that since Samsungs are almost always awesome desktop lcds, I was making a good choice.

Then I cam here.... Seems the one I currently have in the Comp, the Lg0000 or something like that, is supposed to be great, and ALL Samsungs are crap.

What's going on? Anyone have one of the Samsung screens I bought? It is NOT a screen from Dell, but it is guaranteed to work on a 9300. Does it matter? Were the Dell screens just made poorly?

I really hope it gets here and is good, but I am a little worried now.

Let your own eyes decide. I have had 2 samsung displays on my XPS Gen 2 The first one was perfect with a little light leakege when I first got it and it went away but after about a year it failed. Dell replaced it and that samsung it was replaced with was perfect.

My current display samsung on my M 1710 is beautiful & I mean perfect.
In most cases all laptop displays have a little light leakage but in a week or 2 it fades away (most of the time)

But yes many do get bad displays so far I have been lucky have had the Inspiron 1100, Inspiron 9100, XPS Gen 1, XPS Gen2 & M 1710 and none have had any dead or stuck pixils or light leakage that did no mostly go away in a week or 2

Weather you get a cheap Laptop or a highend laptop the LCD's are expeincive one reason I alway's get compleate care in home. If it fails or I Dell does ever give me a bad display they will replace it.

In most cases from what I have seen with the light leakage the only time you can see it is on a black screen. As mentioned it does faid in time with a display but sometimes not all the way.

That's cool. i am really hoping that it's better than the screen that I have now. it's really not one I can deal with.

My wife has a 9100, and it has an AWESOME screen. I've never bothered to find out what screen it is, I just figured they were all gonna be pretty much the same from Dell, so I grabbed this 9300.

Like I said, it's used, and I expected to have to do some work to it. I just hope the new one is more like the 9100.

I don't like a screen that I have to tip all over the place to see consistent color/brightness. I like a good viewing angle. This current one is horribly washed out straight on, and only really acceptable once you tip it back quite a ways...

Adjusting your Digital Vibrance setting to medium to medium high really brings out the colors on the Samsung screens. Try it, if you haven’t already.

My samsung looks great no issues here.

I'll second that. Must be hit or miss.

I probably had one of the worst examples of a samsung ever... I have pics in the what screen do you have thread. I just switched out with a LG V2... NO leakage (thought this was impossible) NO dead pixels. The colors... OMG!!!
