i really want some more graphics power so i want to upgrade my graphics card...

i found on dells website how to take out the video card and how to put a new one in... BUT where can i purchase the card from? should i get a 7900 7800 6600 6800???

what are costs, and do i have to do any type of modding

all help is appreciated

Yup! you can upgrade!

Go here and get the dual-pipe 7900 GS

And idk about modding. may have to wait for some more replies for that answer.

Yes you can install at 7900GS into your E1705 Laptop.

You can purchase the Card from Dell or if warranty is not an issue
here is a link from a User on this forum

The nice thing about the 7900GS is it's a drop in, no mods required.

Good Luck

This is only true for the single-pipe Go 7900 GS; the one designed for the E1705. The dual-pipe cards, designed for the M1710, require modding.

Bal`thzar, are you able to get the Nvidia Go 7900 GS single-pipe graphics card at a good price?

I did that upgrade, it worked without a glitch.

. . . but you'll also need a 130W power supply and many suggest the 9-cell battery if you plan on running the GTX.

Tack on another $125.

i HARDLY use my laptop without the power supply, so i really dont need the battery.. right? lol... anyway, if i use my laptop at work for only exel and word, do i need a 130watt cord for the office? i only game at home, and i dont mind buying an extra 130 watt power supply btw, these forums are great, everyone is nice here...haha ive been on howardforums, hfboards, and a shitload of other ones, and people are dicks

i know this is a long time after this thread was written but ijust noticed it in looking for the differences between a single and dual pipe 7900GS.

If he has the ATI 9400 wont he not be able to put the nVidia 7900 GS? in his lappy? doesnt the Dell 9400 board that uses the ATI have a seperate LCD connection on it.... the nVidia one has the LCD connector on the card anyone have any confirmation on this way or the other? ive seen 2 different Dell 9400 Inspiron Bases on ebay for sale one uses the ATI and has the 1 inch lcd connector on it the one does not but they both use that big pci-e (or is it MXM?) to connect the vga to the mobo.

HI i just ordered a Dell inspiron 9400 and went for the higher specs given in the choice menue ..except the graphics card . ATI X1400 was INCulded but the Nvidia graphic card was 380$/ £200 more expensive so i decided to get the ATI x1400 as i wanted a powerful laptop that could do multimedia and light gaming on. So the following are the specs and if some one please tell me if i would be able to run Quake 4, Fear and Lord of the rings battles of middle earth on this machine and what quality as i am very anxious to know as the machine hasnt arrived yet.
Intel Core Duo 2 - 2GHZ, 4mb cache,667mhz bus.
Ram 2gb DDR2 533 MHz bus.
Graphic card ATI X 1400
Hardrive 5200 Rpm because the stupid people only had this one not the 7200..
Windows media centre edition 2005.
and one more thing if i have the 3 yr at home serivice would i be able to ask the technician to replace my ATI x 1400 with the powerful Nvidia later on or would i have to replace it my self with 0% technical knowledge.

If you can put lego's together, and use an erector set... you can change the video card...

its that simple.
