Need help with TM8100/8200 built in memory card reader please.

I have a problem with my memory card reader on my TM 8100. The problem is, I'm afraid to put in anything in there! (hum, when else have I said that...)

I heard a horror story about a friend who put a memory chip in his built in reader, and it was not designed to accept that type of chip and got stuck in the slot. He had to disassemble his whole laptop and push the card out from the inside.

Looking in my card slot, the brass contact points seem to be VERY deep inside the slot, far deeper than the actual card would need to go in.

I do not have my original Acer box with me, just my laptop. Did Acer include some kind of all in one adapter for his card reader?? I googled such a thing but all I find are card readers that are bundled with adapters. Does anyone know where I can buy just an adapter? Or should Acer have included one?

The built in card reader is labeld an "xD" reader. I assume this is different than the memory card in my digital camera, and is definately different from the memory card in my Nokia cell phone. Is there an all in one adapter out there somewhere for this xD slot?

Mate I found the types of cards the card reader from the user guide of my 8104WLMi.


I have personally used SD cards regularly since I had bought my PC in April 2005. I have used an XD card, from a friend's digital camera, and I also might have used a Sony MemoryStick. without any adapter or anything.

What you need to realise is there are shed loads of card types, and loads of digital cameras use different standards.

on my 8104 i've successfully used the card slot for

SD cards - goes straight in - thats probably whats in your phone.

Sony memory stick - some of the really tiny ones need an adapter. i forget the names of them, they have so many kinds and i don't use them much.

xD card - goes in sideways, contacts to the right.
