According to The Register article, the nice folkes in "The DVD Forum" (no relation to notebook Forums... ) have approved a High Definition Recordable DVD format.

No wonder DVD±R/±RW drives are getting so cheap!

Yeah, they are going to call it:
H Double-D VD

That might hurt sales though....

It'll probably end up as HDVD. "High Definition Versatile Disc."

I wonder if DVD-Alliance will come up with a retaliation strategy.

But the Blu-Ray camp may be able to mass produce their products before DVD-Forum will have a chance. I wonder how this will turn out...
