WIll the m5550 play F.E.A.R?

I am planning to get an m5550 soon with MAX settings(best GPU, best CPU, 2gb RAM, etc) and I'm wondering if it will play FEAR with all the settings set to max. If not, will ANY 15'4 laptops be able to play it to its true potential? I am asking because I want a laptop that can stand all the current gen games as well as the next gen games.

Yeah especially if you are maxing everything out no problem! Keep in mind the m5550 is a mid range lappy (good for gaming though) but if you want a gaming lappy i would look at one of their higher end models but the m5550 will be fine.

Do you know of any high-end 15'4 laptops that look as good if not better then the alienware?

I'd be surprised if you can max all the settings in F.E.A.R. on any 15.4" laptop - even the m5500. What screen resolution are you planning on getting? You'll be much better off with the lower res screen - and will be able to turn up more features at native resolution.

I can max pretty much everything on my desktop (FX-55, 2x7800GTX), but it is still a demanding game. You should still be able to play it with reasonable settings on the m5550 and enjoy it. Maybe someone who has recently received one will let us know how it does.

U can't max out w/ thoes specs!?! I got it max ~60fps w/ AMD 4000+ 2gigs-o-ram and (1) 6800gt!!!!

I can max out on the desktop...just saying it might be tough on the m5550. I could not max it out on my Dell XPS 2 with the go6800Ultra...but it played okay at lower resolutions.

I frankly think the "can I max out FEAR on my laptop questions" are somewhat crazy.

The answer is, probably NOT. Definately not on a 15.4" laptop anyway. You want "MAX" settings and a decent framerate in FEAR? You're going to need a 17" laptop with DUAL video cards (SLI) in it. Or at the very least, a laptop with a single card that is better than the GO 7600. I have an m5500 with top notch options (see my sig). The only thing I did not max out was the processor, I got it with 2.0ghz.

HOWEVER, you can still have a very enjoyable FEAR gaming experience on a 15.4" m5550 at 1200 x 800 res with 'reasonable' settings. You could "max out" FEAR on an M9700 I'm sure.

Sorry, that's not what you want to hear, but it's just the facts.

Well said, skypine.

IMO, if a game is good - it will still be quite enjoyable at medium settings or at lower resolutions. And, with the new m5550s, people will probably be able to do better than medium settings for most functions. Turning things like shading down is not going to dramatically affect gameplay.

I can play on my M5500 on 1024x768 with med-high grafix on the go 6600. Runs pretty smooth with 512 mb ram, if i have more i think i can push it further. I'm sure the go 7600 could easily do 1200x800 on med-high with a gig of wam.

512 mb? I got 2 gigs of ram and i think 2.33 ghz for my cpu. I want to know because they are letting you play F.E.A.R multiplayer for free(they give you a cd-key).

Again, warhead, your m5550 WILL play FEAR just fine. But do NOT expect to crank up AA 4x or even 2x and expect decent frame rates, no matter which processor and RAM option you choose. The video card is the bottle neck in this system when trying to play FEAR at max settings.

It will play the game just at 1200 x 800 with medium/high settings and no AA.

I've got a 3.2 P4/6800 Ultra OC and I can't max everything out and play the game smoothly at all places. You must be playing at a low resolution without some of the bells and whistles.

The m5550 will play the game fine at a reasonable resolution and settings.

I don't know of any 15" laptop that will outperform the m5550, or look better trying.
