Ok instead of formatting and reinstalling windows. What programs would you recommend a new E1705 user delete?

Any useless programs please list them here.

Well, can you list what programs are installed by default? As soon as I got mine, I reformatted it. So, I can't even remember what it came with in the first place.

Still, off the top of my head:

- McAfee's suite
- GemMaster (some kind of game)
- Any other crap not found on standard windows installs

all those dell games, they suck and take up space
mcafree stuff
aol crap
those free dialup thingys
basically anything that has trial in the file name
do a defrag
get another antivirus/spyware protection system-i have norton and i know some say its slow it sucks whatever, but it does have all tools necessary for a full security system so consider it
Go into the run window and type msconfig, it will take u to a page where there are tabs on top click "startup" and disable all, then check ones that you still want. when i got mine, before disableing a bunch i had like 80 processes running at once now i have around 40, so it helped even after i installed a bunch of prog. i use. im not sure where it is but if u do a search on here u can find the link to the page where it tells about the processes and what they do. that way you can tell whichones u want and dont.
i would also go to system in the control panel and click advanced near the top then in the performance box click settings then check best performance, click apply then once its done close the window go to display and click appearance and change it from classic view to windows xp if u dont like the classisc look, (really bad) this is alot of things i did 1 to make it faster cause i cant stand slow comp. and 2 well i can only think of one right now but its a really good one!! hope this helps some

Be sure to use Decrapifier to get the startup stuff off.

And there are threads in the Dell section of these forums dealing with this, BTW.

Doing a fresh install is the best option.

Once you have the OS installed, image the drive to an external hard drive... and you'll never have to install again.
