Dell XPS1210 Notebook

hi...

i'm here to seek helps to choose the right spec for the notebook.

i plan to buy this Dell Notebook XPS1210.
here, i want to know, which is better (in all aspects i.e. speed, performance, etc)? having 1 slot of the memory or 2 slots? does that make any difference?

ok, let say, i want a 1GB memory. which is better, having a 512MB x 2 slots or 1 slot of 1024MB?

here's the next question.

below is the spec of the notebook (roughly):
Intel duo core processor 2.0ghz
1024mb (512 x 2) RAM
80gb sata HDD (should i upgrade to 80gb sata 7200rpm HDD? what do you think?)
NVIDIA (R) GeForce(TM) Go 7400 TurboCache 256mb
6-cell Whr lithium ion primary battery (since i'm using the 256mb nvidia, do i need to upgrade to 9-cell?)

about the hdd, i ever came across where its better to have the hdd with 7200rpm in order to speed up the downloading progress.

the RAM, is it enough to use the DDR2?
i don't know about the performance between DDR2 & 533Mhz DDR2...

and about the graphic card, do i really have to upgrade the battery?

is hdd partition neccessary?

i'm sorry, i don't know much about computers. i only read from the other forumners & websites.

hope to hear the feedback from you all soon. tq.

what i need:
i like to surf, play games, watch videos & listen to mp3s while doing my works on the notebook.
i don't intend to store alot of mp3s in the notebook.

helps, guides & suggestions will be very appreciate.

1. Initially 512mb x 2 would be better b/c it would work in dual channel but you have to think if you will want to upgrade to 1024mb x 2 in the near future, also Dell charges a lot for Ram upgrades so you may want to get the smallest amount possible and upgrade yourself.

2. 5400rpm vs. 7200rpm, I would suggest searching this on the forums there have been a lot of questions like this and it seems like everyone has their own opinion. I would say if you like to have a lot of music/games/movies on your HD then go for the biggest 5400 HD. Also if you want you could get the smallest HD (cheapest also) and put your own in this may save some money.

3. I'm not sure what your asking about the RAM if it is 667mhz vs. 533mhz then I would say save the money and go for 533mhz, just my opinion.

4. Partions, Dell will have some of your HD already in a partion for the OS which you can't get back, you can partion your HD again if you want, I do and I assume a lot of people that know how also do but you don't have to.

5. 6cell vs. 9cell this all depends on how much you want to be unplugged, I think the 9cell will stick out the back of the laptop some but of course you can stay unplugged longer, it all depends on what you want to do with it, if you don't like a battery sticking out you can always get two 6cell batteries.

6. Last thing I want to say is a lot of this depends on your how much money you want to spend if you wallet is deep then go for the best but if you want to save money follow what I said.

Good look on your purchase.

about the hdd, will this notebook doing just fine? i mean for the speed & performance?

how about the memory?
should i take the 1 x 1024 (533) or the 1 x 1024 (667)

If you do a lot of gaming... I suggest to get 7200RPM drive. If only productivity, email, web surfing, storing data on disk.. you'll be fine with 5400RPM
You should get the 667Mhz but ask Dell to give you 2 dimms of 512MB.
