Used Sager 9890 Geforce 7900 GTX for Sale

Everyone,

Im actually gonna pass on keeping my sager notebook. I had a 9860 with a board that burned up in it. Just a month ago I spent 899 on it plus shipping to get it fixed with a 9890 board and Geforce Go 7900 512MB video.

When I got it back I had some issues with video. I think it was heat tried to fix it myself with arctic silver 5 but no luck. So I sent it back to SAGER again. Paying more shipping. Originally I wanted a refund on upgrade but that only amounts to $899 minus all the amounts I paid in shipping. So I figured I would Advertise on here and see what happens.

When this comes back repaired its FOR SALE. I dont need a high powered gaming notebook anymore and can do with less power. Here are the specs on it

17" Widescreen Monitor 1680x1050
3.6 Ghz Pentium 4
1 Gig of ram 4x512MB DDR2 533 MHZ
Geforce Go 7900 with 512MB Dedicated RAM
2x60 GigaByte Harddrives for a Total of 120 Gigs of Storage
Configured in RAID 0
Toshiba Double Layer DVD burner Upgraded to Firmware TU51
Bluetooth included
TV Card
Realtek Audio
Modem and Gigabit Network Card
Built in Webcam and Microphone
7 in 1 (I believe may be 10 in 1) Multimedia card reader
Wireless Network Card
Remote control and will work as Jukebox
This Includes an Extra Battery and also a notebook case
All the original Install CD's

I think that sums it up. I keep my stuff in good shape and it ran like a charm but this expense repair is gonna be the end of me so I would rather get it back and sell it.

Im thinking of asking around $1300 for it with the buyer paying for the shipping what do you all think? Anyone interested in it when I get it back?

I have to tell you about the only flaw in it however. This has been there since Ive had it with the 9860 board. There are 3 tiny pixels that are always on. 2 are always on red one is blue. I do notice them from time to time however that isnt why I want to sell the pc.

Pictures are below I need a new camera as well it seems. I have all the CD's and the manual which is on the keyboard. Remote and some cables to the left. There is a picture with 3dmark 2006 score on it then you see the notebook case with extra battery in it on last picture. I never used the notebook bag but would have no use for it.

I have been having some conflict with stuttering in WoW, FEAR and Farcry. Really not gonna spend anymore time on it 3dmark 2006 runs smooth dual Prime 95s run great for hours.

May just be a cooling issue. UT2004 and Battlefront 2 Run just fine however didnt have any in game stuttering on those.

I recently picked up a gateway with integrated graphics and to my surprise WoW stutters some on it also with all the settings lowest they can go, could be all related to heat who knows at this point I just wish I could lug my desktop with me ha ha.

Im interested. Sent a PM. Anyone have advice on how to best handle the transaction? I see Ryu1976 only has 27 posts and that worries me. I have limited funds and really dont want to get ripped off. Like anyone does. I guess im just paranoid after reading posts about trolls here and on ebay. Thanks

I withdrew from the deal as I now have an Alienware.
Good luck with the transaction.

mbkast,

I responded to PM Im new to the forum honestly and have no transaction info to pull from. To be honest I saw you only had one post so that worried me haha.

Because Im new it probably benefits me more to trade with the guys that have been around this way I can get some good feedback from the experienced folks.

UN if you come across anything else let me know Im still awaiting SAGER to finish testing the ol repair.

Thanks for all your replies

Thats extremely low for a 7900 GTX. Thats about what a stock 7900 gs does in a Dell. My OC-ed 7900gs hit 4950. Seems like you still have an issue, unless its processor related (P4 vs CD). Id consider parting it out. Good luck.

I looked and my hyperthreading was shut off. Ill retun with HTT on and see what happens

I reran with HTT on it made a little difference not much got 3779. It runs the test nice and smooth. I would say your dual core probably makes the difference the p4 3.6 is about a year and 1/2 old and 3dmark 2006 has more optimized dual core tests in it. Cant imagine what it could be I will say the old card I had x800 wouldnt run call of duty 2 at native resolution and the new card does so I dont think there is an issue with video. Im guessing Processor is the battlekneck.
The processor could definitely be a bottleneck, although i cant see it being that much of a bottleneck. I strongly dislike the 3dmark tests because the standard test is at a low resolution without AA or AF, where as most new cards show there strong points at high resolutions with AA and AF. For example, my 7900gs OC-ed at 480/600 got around 8000 in 3dmark05, and about 83 fps in the CSS stress test. The GTX oc-ed gets maybe 9800-10000 in 3dmark05. In 3d mark its only maybe a 25% improvement, where as in CSS i now get about 114, which around a 40% improvement. I probably shoulda just kept my mouth shut in the first place but i didnt think of that at first, but i bet a better gauge would be something like the CSS stress test.

Also, im not sure if your CPU supports the speedstepping, but make sure the CPU stays fully throttled in games with the GTX. I just put my GTX in an e1705, and it worked fine for a few days then ran like crap due to the speedstepping not keeping the CPU fully throttle in games. Im using Notebook Hardware Control to keep it running right and its awesome. Some have good results with Rightmark as well.

I have had some issues in some games since I got the 7900 more then I had none with x800. 3dmark is smooth and I ran 2 prime 95 tests for 9-10 hours at the same time and no issues. I looped 3dmark over and over about 5-6 times. So I figured video was ok, prime 95 was fine so I figure the cpu/memory was ok. Yet some games I see pauses. I still wonder if its because cpu bogges down.

When it studders do you see the HDD light on? With 1GB of RAM you would be fine in 3Dmark but some games need a bit more to avoid going back to the drive all the time. It sounds like that could be a potential solution.

I have 2 gigs in it at this time actually so thats not it. I just want to sell it to be honest. Im looking to get a notebook around midrange x1400 or so with a dual core. I travel alot and want one to play WoW yet be kind of portable. So if I can I will just sell it. I would even leave the 2 gigs of ram in it at this point.
