Hacking SigmaTel Drivers for E1705/9400, i need knowledgable helpers - Page 7

e1705

anyone with an e1705...do the buttons on the front of your laptop still control volume with this?
My volume control buttons still work, and AFAIK, this shouldn't be related to the drivers, but to the windows shell.

I'm probably wrong though.

Hi!

Great job of you guys "improving" Dell's drivers!

I've got a strange behaviour with Dell's standard driver:

When playing back a DVD on my Desktop PC, then even with Stereo speakers the voices of the actors can clearly be heared.

When playing back the same DVD on my Dell Latitude D620 using headphones, i can just clearly hear the "environment sounds" like e.g. footsteps. Thats perfect so far. But the voices of the actors are VERY silent. I can barely hear them. Same behaviour, when using the speakers of the D620.

I tried the few sound options i found in the control panel, but couldn't solve the problem.
Does anyone encounter the same behaviour? Is it normal (can't believe that!).
Does anyone have a tip for me, how to get the voices a bit louder?

Thanks for helping!

Greetings,
Omega

UPDATE:
I solved my "low voices prob"!

Problem was the Media Player Classic from K-Lite Codec Pack. There is an AC3Filter-Tool that comes along that codec pack. I changed the output from "AS IS (no change)" to "2/0-stereo" and voila: it just works perfectly!

I could track down the problem when using a different Player like Media Player or PowerDVD. There it worked flawlessly since the beginning. So it had to be a problem with that Codec Pack's configuration tools.

Another question:
Is there an option for equalizer? I would like to set a little more of bass if it's possible!

Thanks!

UPDATE 2:
I re-installed the Sigmatel with the modded INI-File and now i have got the Equalizer.
But which Hz-Value is for making more bass (31 Hz, 62 Hz....)

Thanks.

Oh gee- Hey guys, can you help me out?
I got the stac97 in my old 9200, and I'd really like to get the equalizer working.
How can I do that?
Thanks...great forum, glad to have my first post in such an obscure thread; -You know, I've been all around the web searching for this info till I found this thread and decided to register here.

I don't know what kinda ****in game you people are playing here, but I'll play along. Now that I've created my extra little account just for this thread, maybe someone will ****ing help me.

Oh Gosh, Someone Else, I sure hope someone can answer your questions.

Veazer, would you mind updating your opening post with you most current fix? Alternately, could someone post the latest fix at the end of the thread? I read the thread, but I don't understand a lot of what is going on in here. I have a Dell E1705/9400 and I want to be able to mute the microphone output, so I think that I am most interested in whatever Veazer did that he mentioned in his opening post.

*deletes post in the middle of typing*
Wow, I was about to give you instructions on how to double-click the little speaker icon, but holy crap - I never noticed it didn't have a microphone volume control!!! Yes this is an issue that I would like solved as well, that is pretty serious! What kind of an idiot programmer would write drivers that can't change the volume of a built-in microphone port.....

You can adjust the microphone input (for voice recognition, recording, etc), but there is no microphone output slider. This is critical to using a microphone for anything else (VOIP, Teamspeak, etc). Muting the microphone in the output field will fix the issues with the microphone not working in VOIP. I'd bet my 9400 on it.

I got the 5.10.5067 sigmatel drivers and .inf hack working on my 6400 I could do up 1 driver for everyone based on this set if there is enough interest.

They aren't WHQL but thats not a big deal.

Let me know and i will make one that all dell laptops can install using the sigmatel chipset.

If it gives me a microphone output slider/mute, I would practically kill for a copy.

I've got an Inspiron 9400 with int. Intel Pro/Wireless 3945. It has an annoying beep whenever acquiring a new WiFi signal -- particularly irritating in meetings and libraries... I've been trying to figure out a way to disable the onboard speaker and this thread is my best clue so far. Anyone have any helpful hints? Sorry if this is wrong place to post my question -- a Google search shows others irritated like myself, but not yet found any solutions.

Open your volume control, click on Options, then Properties, Click the "PC Speaker" tab. Now you can see the PC Speaker volume control, just turn it all the way down and click the 'Mute' tab.

Hope this helps.

Hey I was wondering,
Does anyone have the ability to do this with the stac97 set?
Ya know, just curious.

Thanks Deceptikon. That's where I'm used to finding the internal speaker, but its not there. I was assuming it was a windows driver thing, but its not there in Vista, or Ubuntu on my machine either (I'm booting several OS). I've also checked my BIOS. Its a really loud, obnoxious beep and even with headphones plugged in, it still emits from my speakers at what I suspect is full volume. Very irritating. Hope the attached image showing my results when doing what you suggested in XP sp2 shows what I'm talking about? Was hoping someone here might help with a speaker volume registry hack?? or other ideas. Again, its happening in Linux, Vista, XP, so sadly, maybe not a Sigmatel Driver fixable solution?

Read through my posts here where I show how to locate the necessary registry string in which you can disable the PC beep.

...Meanwhile, can anyone help me with my ****ing equalizer?

(-What can I say? I hate being ignored.)

This may be of interest to other people as it allows both the laptop speakers and audio out jack to be used at the same time. It keeps the subwoofer control and allows the integrated speakers to be muted.
Was this last set from you ever approved for use on the E1705/9400?

Recording option

Hi all folks.
First of all, many thank you for those who worked
so good to provide us so better sigmatel driver .
I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 and I would ask you three question:
1) Can I record any sound I hear in my notebook ?
I say is there an option to record "what you hear"?
2) How can I use "stereo mix" option in record control?
Can you give me some useful examples?
3) What is "input monitor" slide?
Sorry if my questions seem to be stupid, but really I would like to
know something more.
Best regards
Akal

Akal, A couple options that allow you to record "what you hear"
1. "FREE Hi-Q Recorder" - works GREAT but won't work with your Inspiron 9400 -- I mention it here because it will work on just about any other system, (and maybe on Inspiron 9400 after folks on this thread make new Sigmatel drivers...)
2. "Total Recorder" - lets you record one source i.e. streaming audio, while listening to something else -- DVD, mp3, etc (AND works with Inspiron 9400).
Can find both with a Google Search. -J

Thanks. Trying some of the settings during reboots. My registry keys were a bit different from yours though. Will let you know if it works for windows but would like a solution that works for both windows and linux. Just want to totally disable my internal speaker so it doesn't work at all (but not so drastically that I can't re-enable it someday if I need it for some as yet unknown reason).
I'm new to any forum but this I had to get in on. Psychokitty first; I have 2 week old Dell Inspiron E1705 which contains Sigmatel 9200 audio. Audigy HD EQ works very well as does the subwoofer level control though there semes to be no crossover save the tiny "sub" firing it's full range into your main event instead of your face. Still way better than most notebook bass. Get the Audigy HD Software if you need fulltime global EQ otherwise skip it and use your players EQ or another EQ Plugin.
Dell has chosen not to implement many options of the Sigmatel 9200 mostly through limited circuitry not just drivers and .ini files. Be careful what you play with. You may turn off the S/PDIF output that is nestled between the S-video pins by altering an .ini file but what if you say turn on the 9200's S/PDIf input for which there is no accompanying input. Probably a nice fader will appear that does nothing but mabey trouble. It's also a 24 bit chip but that is being limited to 16.
You poor bastards with the snapped off headphone jacks: Sigmatel uses an integrated 1 watt per channel amp with impedance sensing circuitry at the jacks (like in a dual video card) not physical switches. If you can eliminate the short (or open) caused by the broken jack your speakers should re-appear. I offer this as an alternative to .ini modification. There is code in the Sigmatel ini's that call this impedance polling and you can find it easily though I personally would be shy to mod it.
Veaser: Kudos and salutations. You're doing brave work. It is what brought me to the forum though I'm still affraid of trying some of this. If I could get this machine to do what it should already ; that is record the Stereo Mix without physical jumpering and record the internal Audigy HD software synth all while monitoring inputs then I'll go out on the limb. Dell should offer us these options but have crippled there product for one very good reason which has nothing to with copywrite law: It would be a nightmare for them in customer support simply eliminating record/monitor feedback loops. Still they owe it to us even if with a disclaimer.
On some MAC sites you may here of the illicit distro OSXx86 it contains a driver for Sigmatel 9220 but not 9200. Those guys are hacking diligently on a driver to get the sound working. Mabey some common ground though a reverse port from OSX to Windows is the long trip home.
