Hacking SigmaTel Drivers for E1705/9400, i need knowledgable helpers - Page 10

Geep, thanks for your suggestions. I got 44.1 kHz DTS and DD files from this site for testing. I want this mostly so I can send 44.1 khz mp3 streams over spdif to my receiver (which can decode mp3). I can do this fine with 48 khz mp3 streams that are used in xvid rips, but the 9200 seems to reject 44.1 khz streams for anything other than PCM.

To access the spdif settings on the control panel: in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SigmaTel\STacGUI , change the value of Config_Adv to decimal 511 and Config_Rates to decimal 46. Then go to the Windows Control panel > Sigmatel audio (or run stacgui.cpl).

Veazer posted a detailed list of these and other settings on the first page of this thread. Good luck.

Kobayaashi , I think this now to be acheivable : mp3 44.1k in multi-channel. It only stands to reason that if the stac 9200 goes clear to 192k that they are not doing any resampling as in say Audigy 2 family which resample to 48k for s/pdif output. 192 is however a multiple of 48 and not 44.1 but I seem to remember 88.2k and 176.4k are also supported rates in the stac9200. It is quite possible that in the presence of an mp3@44.1k DTS or DD that the codec is instructed to decode and resample to 48k (and if hardware accelerated is no cpu hit) or unlikely utilize rear sythesis settings referrenced by those Reg entries I'd mentioned : this is only a guess. Either way the signal would be degraded, terribly in the latter case. When you play these example files which contain 6 channels, what is output via S/PDIF, decoded or re-encoded 5.1 or something else? Oh in case you're looking Sigmatel dumped all this on a company called IDT so that is where you can get what little official info is available. Luck to You as well. GEEP

Psychokitty, We haven't heard from you in awhile on this thread but it seems like you haven't been reading it either. I don't mean disrespect by that but I'm hurt and was entertained and informed by your posts previously. I have personally spent hours researching other posters problems so as to serve them better and your comment is well a bit of a kick. If I knew where to find that file ....well hats off to Fusel Wusel. I may stray off thread and get as verbose as a Linux install but I have really tried to serve and to serve is it's own reward. If you want to help even by criticizing my style of help well have at it. Hey I am a newbie. Still I say wecome back.

Well Geep, since it obviously does matter to you enough to have responded thusly, my sincere apologies.
Surely you can appreciate my frustration when, after having asked several times for assistance that is obviously easily within the collective knowledge base of this thread, I have been repeatedly ignored.

Now I'm a pretty respectful conversationalist, but I consider myself one of those 'reciprocative-respect' kinda guys. In other words, if some people are talking about a subject and I have a question, I politely ask about it. I often go so far as to preclude my question with an apology for my ignorance on the subject. But when I go ignored, and people continue to talk as if I had never asked, well, that's when I change my behavior.
I saw someone being ignored, and it was easy to slip myself into his position; -an all too familiar position in this thread, I felt. So I opened my mouth, and fwiw, I kept myself from posting far worse, way back when he had asked the second time.

It's not my fault this thread started out as a helpful thread for the "layman" and morphed into a thread where those same people have become ignorable pains in the ass with regards to the subject matter.
I'm the layman.
My needs didn't change. This thread changed, and all the players that could help me seem to be right here. Despite that fact, I've had to go elsewhere to seek help with my situation. -Always well received, I might add.

I'm not whining and I'm not bitching, and I'm by no means the poster boy for "netiquette". I'm just puzzled by the concept that I, who admittedly knows so little, can be so much more helpful to folks than some others here that know so much.

Veazer thanks for the heads up on ASIO4all recognizing multiple sound cards. Using V2.7 I still can't get internal and Griffin iMic selected even when I've chosen bit rates and resolutions common to both. Either work fine but not together. Any thoughts on that. Also with just the internal Sigmatel 9200 I am able to acheive a reported 3-6ms latency but I'm hearing 60 or 80ms from my audio multi-track prog. using no plugins. If you could give a little insight on buffer settings, etc. I'll much appreciate the help. As for the iMic it may never be low latency anyway as I think it is USB 1 or 1.1..... Hey is the unrest there settled yet and your show up and running? You never gave me the feed info. The best to you man. Sincerely, Geep

Since the D620 should have a 92xx-Chipset, too, I tried the new inf with that driver, but it doew not work. Therefore, I tried the manual way (at least the registry-keys from the first side) and they do work. Is there a chance that someone with the knowledge tries to make an inf for the D620-driver. so that I can get the stereo-mix?

Many thanks
Michael

Latest Sigmatel Driver ONLY

no control panel yet.

Uninstall old driver and install this one via Device Manager.

Let me know if it works on all the dell machines if not PM i will add them to the .ini and work on adding the control panel back
post #196 of 561
Well I have no idea if this helps any, and haven't really read the thread over to see if the file is still on here... but here is the last INI posted (which unlocked the control panel/equalizer/stereo mixer) for the E1705. Maybe one of you all can use this file to help you somehow (maybe?).

Have anybody realized the 92xxm2-5.ini for the E1505? Thanks.....
hey guys

total noob to the forums, but I just bought a fricking e1505 and ran smack into the "non stero mix" wall... before this, I had an inspiron 5100, and I was able to restore the mix option with a simple regedit. Now, I'm boned, aparently/

I do a lot of podcasting, and so this mix is essential. Is there anyone who can help me? I have seen the INI files and the i6400 drivers, etc, but I have no idea what to do with them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

natsumattoThis has been going on a long time now and if there was a good solution I'd think Dell would make it available even at a cost. Solution #1 probably best if you are "married" to your Podcast software : an external mic. / line mixer with afeed for headphones while routing the computers line out into that mixer and the mixer out back into the computers line input. A small mixer from a music store could be $50 to $80 level.#2 Get a Firewire or USB interface with the ins and outs and internal monitoring you need. #3 Find a Podcasting software or plugin that handles what you want to do within the program, mixing the mic in with the audio stream. Any way you look at it if you are playing from mp3 and mixing in a mic you are decoding and re-encoding yet there isn't a need to D/A , A/D, mixing the old analog way. Read back posts in this thread especially Veaser's you may be interested in what he has said of Wuschel's ASIO4all driver in conjunction with a Logitec USB headset/mic. [[[ There's a very inexpensive and not TOO difficult 4th solution it's a purely passive mixer hooked up like the comercial one in solution #1. Using a stereo mic. or amplified mic. this can be accomplished easily with nothing but resistors and potentiometers providing you don't need to hear your mic. in the phones. If you do need to hear it, the "mix" going into the computer will need to be split off to an amp or amplified headphones with mic level gain (like common guitar practice headphones). If you feel brave let me know and I'll draw you a schematic. ]]] Good Luck Geep

Actually, I found a solution-- someone else pointed out that LG made a notebook model "LE50" that had the same chipset. I went to the LG site, downloaded the "sigmatel.zip" drivers, and i'm back to having a "Stereo Mix" option. All that tells me is that Dell is purposely being a huge dick about this and crippling the sound on purpose...
