Hacking SigmaTel Drivers for E1705/9400, i need knowledgable helpers - Page 13

Squidbait, Pieter's partitioning scheme is how I set up my tower but created the partitions in advance on a new drive. It is great for testing drivers, etc. I keep 2 XP's and a Linux part. Partitioning is risky buisness on a disk stuffed full of data. Not endangering your system is why I suggested you try the fresh install on an external drive USB 2.0 : safe, easy and no partitioning needed. Still I don't think your trouble is hardware. A quicker test: As I'd mentioned a Live Linux CD or DVD: an OS that boots from that disk and runs only in RAM not touching your hard drive can be invaluable for finding out if hardware is the problem. It can also boot and retreive data from a hard drive that won't boot or let you get online with built in Firefox. Whatever you decide Good luck and Back-up Sincerely, Geep

Shekspeare, I got you covered, only you you must decide what way you like best. First forget all the hacks. Secondly consider Sigmatel STAC 9200 is a fantastic sound chip for about $1.00 in fact I'd say it's worth $2 mabey $3. 1. This is your best immediate solution: get a GM DXi or VSTi plug-in synth. Roland/Edirol TTS-1 just smokes MS and is included in SONAR 5 and 6. NI's Bandstand is hearalded as is Cayote. Just record it with your Audio/MIDI sequencer. 2.You could also install Roland VSC-3 which has a built in MIDI player and audio recorder. 3. Plug a stereo cable from ouput back to input, adjust levels and record with any recorder (I suggest AUDIOGRABBER because it's flexible, has meters and is free). 4. If you want quality and your a musician you will wind up doing this eventually anyway: buy a decent audio interface, preferably firewire. ProSonus Inspire 1394 (4 in 4 out) is under $200 or checkout Edirol, Emu or if you want Pro-tools compatibility then M-Audio. Good luck. Sincerely, Geep

shekspeare,Sorry. I'll be simpler. Don't do the driver hack. You don't need it to record your MIDI to wave.__Get a software plug-in synth (General MIDI type) and install it. __Open your music editing program. __Import your MIDI files. __Insert the new synth.__ Record the synth audio return to a stereo audio track.__......If you don't understand tell me what sequencer/audio program you are using and I'll try harder to help.__...You can use just a cable from line/headphone output back to line input but you won't hear what is going on unless you insert a Y adapter to feed amp or headphones. Well done gentlemen, I certainly applaud all of your efforts. Thanks also to pieter for the rework of the driver, made the install nice and simple. I will remention the Nvidia GeoForms that someone had posted about earlier. Kinda neat program to run as a screensaver, granted you have a high end Geforce GPU to run it on.

If you want it, you can grab it here http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_geoforms_home.html

Once again very impressed guys. Its nice finding, and then being able to turn on all of the features Dell never wanted us to have (for whatever reason...)

Anyone else getting small clicks/pops with this driver install hack?

If I install the stock Dell drivers my sound is nice and clean (but no Stereo Mix). With this hacked install, I get Stereo Mix (yay) but every 10-30 seconds I get a noticeable crunch/pop/click. Not huge, but definitely noticable.

Sigh, why can't Dell just release drivers that work properly?

ccarollo, Clicks wasn't my problem on E1705 but general noise was. This helps: 1: select the line in on the record mixer, 2: set it's volume to zero, 3: then select Stereo Mix to record. If you don't do this the noise is worse than a cheap cassette. Now when you plug in a line or mic input you will have to re-enable it and turn it up. The only way to keep this sensitive and noisy input out of the mix is to turn it down (while selected). Simply de-selecting it does not take it's noisy away. You see it pick's up stray EM noise generated by other circuitry in the computer and clicking may be one of the results. Good luck with it and let us know if this works. Sincerely Geep

Hi

i've read nearly all the topic but I've see nothing for the 640m/E1405

.inf = 92xxM2-1.ini

can anyone help me do the trick plz ?

hey one question everybody.

I have a BIG question.

I use to have this ini which use to be 15.3kb, now someone has sent me this ini which is 14.1kb, apparently is the final version of the mod.

However the 2 earphones working at the same time is not there anymore, and when i want to go back to the "beta" ini the earphones on the microphone input are not working either.
Is there anyway atm to get both the earphones output and the microphone input to work as earphones outputs?

Sorry if its messy.

I have tried the driver and it works great.
Was really dissapointed in the lack of features the original Sigmatel driver has.
All thanks should go the the people that have gotten the tweaks to the point they are now.
Should other tweaks or newer drivers be found, let me know I can easily update the files and reupload.

As for the '403' error, I've tested the link before posting and it works for me.
Is anyone else having the same problem ?
The directory http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/audio/ is browsable by everyone should the link give the '403' error.

First link didn't work but was able to download from the web page you posted here.

Friends, this is an incredible upgrade. Much thanks to everyone involved, and pieter for providing the exe driver install.

I got an E1705 last week and was disappointed with the audio - in terms of quality and features. And this upgrade has helped both - the EQ lets me raise the treble - the treble response out of the box was dismal. And now I am quite happy.

Anyway thanks guys, you made me a believer in Sigmatel. :P

so umm.. .I get a periodic crackling from any audio playback, any program. It happens about once every 3 minutes or so, and lasts about 2 seconds. This started happening right after I installed it - but I thought it might go away. Thoughts?
So yeah umm I uninstalled and went back to the OEM drivers. The crackling was too much, I couldn't handle it. Is there anyway to ONLY enable the EQ control panel? That's all I really want.

thx

Srika, yes contact Dell and order the Creative Audigy software add-on just for it's EQ or seek it elseware. It works well but you may be able to find some other plugin as all that other stuff is mostly a waste. Geep

hey I already tried the Creative Advanced MB package.. didnt do much - adjusting the EQ on it sounded too artificial, i dunno how to explain it. The hacked drivers sounded way better. Too bad I cant use those and not have the crackle. :<
