Hacking SigmaTel Drivers for E1705/9400, i need knowledgable helpers - Page 22

I have one Mic jack and one headphone jack. After reading the whitepapers I learned that these cards have sort of an auto sensing format. From a line in to a microphone. Which is what dell has "nerfed" via the drivers.

Now, I have mangaged to deal with the 16-bit, 48khz bandwidth, and I have both input and output. My problem lies in what I guess would be a pass-through to monitor my input on the output channel.
I am using the most current driver for this Sigmatel 9750. But just like the rest of you, Dell has decided to nerf my controls. If the pass-through was active, I'm pretty sure there would be a slider for Mic on my volume control pannel.

As I said before, a "Y" adapter, albeit quick and dirty, will not suit my purposes.

As far as the Sigmatel control pannel, all I have is the "Battery Saver" tick box; that's it!

This machine I am replacing with the Dell is connected to a HF Transceiver so I have RF issues to deal with. As such, I really need for this Sigmatel to function properly.

Thanks,
Evan

Evanpeer, Didn't you say you had a stereo mix slider in your panel? It should carry the input signal in it's mix, level set by the input slider. Geep

Hey all, just want to say huge respect for fixing my audio woes. I have i6400 running on XP, and been wanting to record streaming radio for ages but was stalled by the 'no stereo mix' option.

Incidentally, if you don't want to play with your settings and potentially damage your computer but do need to record streaming audio through the soundcard, both Soundtap and Total Recorder shareware progs work even with the crippled dell sigmatel driver/soundcard, but both at small cost. I tested Soundtap recording software, which worked well on 6400 but on demo version get annoying voiceover.

I also didn't want to screw up my audio and lose my subwoofer by downloading the LG driver like some people have done. I was considering buying y cable to run from mic to line-in, via a splitter, but thought bugger it why should i spend more money trying to fix this...

Was hesitant about trying the modded 92XXM2-5.ini file but am now so glad i did...

I tried Dazog's suggestion first with the latest Dell driver R153908/5.10.0.5401 for Latitude models. This driver didn't work on my system, (as suspected) with or without the modded .ini file. I lost all sound and had to reinstall my old driver.

Resorted to the tried and tested method posted by eddiep at post #235, with downloading R122161/5.10.0.4995 driver from Dell and using the adapted .ini file posted by eddiep.

Immediately after install, I got a "new hardware installed" message with an error pop-up which said that new hardware may not have installed correctly, but can;t seem to see anything wrong and in settings the driver says enabled and fundtioning properly.

As I type I am happily recording my fave radio station and have just spent a good twenty minutes playing round with the extra Sigmatel enabled settings. Have lost no functionality or sound quality, headphones etc all still work perfectly, am able to use EQ, have working 'stereo mix' function, have no crackling noises or distortion even though using wireless, etc. all good thanks.

GAME ON! You all rock...

Geep,
Correct, and I never said I had an issue with that.

My problem is monitoring any input via my output.

Either way, I got into my registry and enabled it. I now have full, zero latency duplex.

Thanks anyway.

ok, so that was a premature post. It seems since downloading the new driver with the modded .ini file that the sound when playing anything through my CD/DVD drive is badly distorted and scratchy, so bad that you camt listen to either dvds or cds playing through it. I have a NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A.
Anyone any ideas what might be Wrong or how to fi? or do i need to reinstall old drivers and lose 'stereo mix' - maybe you can't have it all after all...
Please help

Try to uninstall all the sigmatel and SB Advance MB, & reinstall Sigmatel driver from dell...then try this http://www.notebookforums.com/thread199898.html

Im on Vista Home Premium 32bit, I saw there was no Vista driver hack in this thread, so I tried the XP driver that was posted near the beginning of the thread (92XXM2-3.zip) It works great, everything installed fine on Vista, The control panel said it apparently has compatibility issues, I checked "do not show this again" and said run program, the control panel opened up fine and it works I have not tested all the features so im not sure if it works 100%, but I got my speakers working through the headphone jack so I'm happy about that

Great work so far guys Much respect

Has anyone squeezed the theoretical 192KHz out of these cards? The STAC9200 on my i6400 should do 24/192, but the highest I can go with ASIO4ALL is 16/48, and the highest I can go with "Audition Sound" in Adobe Audition is 16/96. Since the spec sheet claims 24/192 it appears as though Dell has crippled these cards (based on my own research on sigmatel.com and confirmed by someone else on Dell's forums).

Legion is correct about the design of the chip supporting 24/192 but something would have to be added to the Intel board to limit that unless Dell is doing it with the driver. I believe I have used it in 24 bit but I don't clearly remember.
Drop a 24/192 wave file on Winamp or other supporting media player and have your answer.
Ah, I should have been more specific. I meant recording at 24/192, which as I recall should be possible according to the spec sheets. Thanks for the reply.

Steve, That is in the spec as is a very low noise but in a E1705 it is worse than cassette at ~ -58 db, completely submerging the lower 8 bits of 24. As for 192: I am curious to know why you would bother to be so fastidious about sample rate while enduring such noise. Recording bats are you? Let me have a look at those mics. hehe Geep

Steve,
Yes you can I have. 24/192 stereo using straight MS audio into Soundforge.___5.2 seconds and 5.93 Mb.

I noticed Dell has linked a newer version of sigmatell on their forums , it meant for the desktop boards but I guess it should work :
http://www.dellcommunity.com/support...thread.id=2095
they are linking the drivers straight from intel , so since it isn't supplied by dell it could actually be better.
I will try this myself , unless someone recommends against it.

Control option for headphone PLUS internal speakers and with internal muted

It would be ideal if long threads were digested into a form where I can find exactly the info I need. After searching, I could not find the answer to this:

I love the remix and other features. But I now am stuck with the internal speakers always on. I want the internal speakers muted when I plug in the headphones. Where is the control for that? Or do I need to take this mod out. (But I want the remix!)

Thanks,
Ed
while using this hack, as soon as I plug in headphones/external speakers, the internal speakers mute automatically....
There were several methods and files that one can use to install. Use the .ini files from this user or that, install LG, then Dell with mod, then LG again. I tried several different things because many of them didn't work. When I did get the remix and other controls, (REAL nice to control the bass speaker on the notebook), well, that's when I noticed that the speakers don't mute.

So unless someone has some wisdom, ideas, suggestions, hacks, mods, etc., it is back to trying some more variations of install.

Here's a question: Is there one single "best practice" method of install? Or is it every person for himself? I have a Dell M90 notebook. What works best for that machine?

Thanks..
Edro

m1710 Sigmatel & Vista

Forgive me, I tried reading this long thread, but rapidly became very confused!

Is there a fix/hack to just get "Stereo Mix" recording input visible/available UNDER VISTA on the xps1710 ??

I cannot understand why Dell hide/disable this. I have two other PC's running Vista with different soundcards and they BOTH have Stereo Mix enabled (one is running an Audigy 2) so it can't be that Dell disabled it for legal reasons.
